When money is expensive (high APR’s) people buy fewer toys. The Gladiator is a toy for the masses and the sales figures support this.

No matter what, we have our JTs now. When I was 18 or 19, I desperately wanted a Scrambler, but didn't have the $$$. Now a Scrambler is a classic and a rare, expensive find. I have 0 intention of ever selling my Mojave. Ever.
This is my sentiment exactly. Told my wife this Mojave is staying with me for the duration... I have a lot of runway left, so I am sure it will not be my primary driver forever, but it damn sure will be in my garage.

I am probably on the 20th vehicle that I have told myself it is the last one I will ever own and/or will drive the wheels off it. Never works out that way.

I said that about every truck I've owned. I did almost drive the wheels off my 70 Chevy - started breaking stuff you couldn't find any more because the 70 with a 350 had some one year only parts, like exhaust manifolds and certain other things. (and the divorce made me feel like buying myself a treat - like an 87 Comanche)
I said my 95 Ford would be my last truck, then again about my 2011 Chevy, and then my 2020 JT and my wife is a bit anxious about the 2022......... getting the bills for new drugs and the annual license bill for her JLU make me think this may very well be my last. All but $700 when her last Jeep was only 60% of that for license fees.

Anyway, I see GM and Stellantis have said "pass" on this year's super bowl. Ford hasn't been in it for years, so no biggy there.
But all 3 seem to be considering some heavy cost cutting. Seems this strike and other things going on aren't making them feel really confident and the 3 are looking for cost cutting according to an article i read earlier today.

I seem to trade-in/sell after about 7 years it seems. I'm not sure what will happen this time.

Yes, interest rates mean nothing because I pay cash for my vehicles. Inflation is an issue since the cost of new vehicle keeps rising, then depreciates after purchase. All the auto makers have jacked those prices up quite a bit in the past few years with the supply/demand yoyo. Lets see how things adjust now with high supply and low demand. Of course they can reduce production to adjust, but will take time.

Price matters! Shop around! When I was looking to purchase in Spring of 2022, my local dealership like many others wanted to charge at or above MSRP plus add unwanted dealer add-ons and were unwilling to negotiate. I've never paid MSRP and never will for a new vehicle. Then I found Gupton Jeep on this forum offering 6% below Invoice. Not 6% below MSRP... 6% below invoice. And one of the best vehicle buying experiences I've ever had. Flew the entire family up for less than $300 and we had a vaycay drive back home. Great experience and I'll look to them first for future purchases.

I could have bought a sensible daily commuter vehicle for much less. Maybe a gently used Corolla. But where's the fun in that? I've owned 6 previous jeeps in years past and wanted another "FUN" vehicle for my family. So far I have no regrets on our Jeep Gladiator purchase. I loved my 2003 Tacoma and still own a 2008 Tundra. Plus a 2015 Toyota Sienna (Wife). But the Gladiator is a pure fun machine.

BTW, I'm not loaded by any means. Everyone's situation is different though and I am understanding of that. We are fortunate, but mostly due through years of hard work and effort. I am the sole income earner with a wife and two young kids to support. Their extra-curricular monthly expenses add up to way more than a car payment. School fees, music lessons, Taekwondo, etc...$$ My 12 yo boy eats like horse. I make a decent salary, but put some income to work in stock investments regularly in addition to retirement savings. After I paid off my wife's CRV 10+ years ago I put that $400 monthly payment into an automatic savings account allocation called "Auto Fund". So $400/month plus interest=~$5000 per year, and every 5 years $25,000 plus any trade-in.... 10 years ~$50,000 plus trade-in. You get the idea. We try to limit expenses and live on a budget. Don't eat out hardly ever. Not a fancy life, but still a happy life and like to travel and have a separate fund for that. Other automatic monthly paycheck allocations to savings for emergencies, Christmas, HOA fees, home maintenance, etc... We have no debt except our house. If we have to incur debt for it, we don't buy it. All credit cards paid off monthly so no interest fees. Just the way we live now and it works for us.

Title says it all. Wrangler sales also down (12% 4Q, 14% overall in 2023). Not sure if declines are result of absurdly high MSRPs, new competition from Bronco, UAW strike, or other reasons. Stellantis overall reports a 1% sales decline while most other manufacturers are reporting sales gains in North America in 2023. Ford has yet to report.

On the Gladiator part of the equation, I think the people that wanted one already have them. Even alot of Wrangler owners hate the look of the Gladiator. I recently upgraded mine and special ordered from Mall of Georgia to get the below invoice pricing . When I picked mine up they said they had special ordered over 400 Wranglers in 2023 and 15 Gladiators . That was shocking that the only Dealer in Georgia that advertises below invoice pricing, barely ordered over 1 a month. But intrest rates have certainly slowed sales in
almost every Brand and model.

My bet is on inflation and interest rates. (Or one in of the same ;) )
$60k+ vehicles at 9% interest with perfect credit? All those buyers with $0 down and bad credit are probably looking at close to 20%. Gas pushing close to $5/gallon. I wonder why Honda and Toyota sales are up and jeep and ram sales are down...

Vehicle styling and appearance come into play only after consumers feel that these three basic needs have been met.
[/QUOTE]

Pretty much all modern cars meet those basic needs depending on what your range of acceptance is. The JT won out for me because of looks......dang sure wasn't for price.

[note: I only say this pertaining to Wrangler v. Gladiator sales, not other models or brands]

As more younger millennials and Gen Z enter their first new car milestone, they arrive with less cash on hand than any prior generation in a market with extremely high interest rates. So, they’re going to be picky.

If they want a do-it-all SUV daily driver that can go off-road with ease, they get the Wrangler, not the Gladiator. Younger generations have realized more so than older generations that having a pick up isn’t always practical.

Why pay more money for a truck that has a bed and towing package when you’ll never use either? Why not have more interior storage space and better mpg on top of that? After all, most American truck owners use the bed only a few times a year, or never. Even less actually tow something.

Although I have a Gladiator, I find myself using my fiancé’s hatchback to haul anything shorter than 6 feet. It has more covered interior space, gets combined 28 mpg and is much easier to park than the 18ft’er.

So, I do see why the Gladiator isn’t keeping up with Wrangler sales—purely out of the aspect of utility. For what most people would use their Gladiator for, a Wrangler could do it too.

Now that I think about it, maybe I should’ve got a Wrangler instead…

Exactly. Everyone else is $15k less with 0%-3.9% financing.

Taking the roof off your truck a handful of times before you realize it's a hassle and just leave it on permanently is only worth so much extra $$ ?
