Just wondering ... is the "stiffer" claim something that Falken states or is it inferred from the change from a 2-ply to 3-ply sidewall?

For an off-road tire, a stiffer sidewall does not necessarily perform better off-road when aired down. Yes, the 3-ply sidewall is usually more robust and resists damage better (= more reliable). However, if the sidewall is indeed stiffer, it usually doesn't flex as well which compromises off-road traction.
Probably a poor choice of words on my part. "Stiffer" in my context translates to a perceived difference in ride quality between the 2-ply and 3-ply sidewall. :)

What do you mean by suck? Do they spin on a rainy road, or did you hydroplane and get sideways?
Suck as in slide on residential roads (at residential speeds) when stopping, spinning when leaving from a stop- (this is my wife driving and complaining…. And she drives pretty lightly). To be totally fair with the slow speed issues, cause lack of confidence, and never really pushed it through corners for normal driving once they got to the point of slipping at stop and go.
For context I rotated these every 5k at oil change. So, can’t blame poor maintenance.
considered siping until I called Les Schwab and they wanted $100 a tire.

To add- these tires were Awesome! Up until this point…

Wish that were my case. They were rotated every 5K and I ditched them at 38K Miles. I have hearing loss so you know it was bad. My wife even was constantly telling me that the tires are getting louder and louder. I mean I know they will get louder but this had gotten exceedingly loud. It a daily driver and lots of cement freeways which were the worst in regards to producing noise. Asphault roads were not nearly as bad
I could second this- though the noise must have been super gradual, since we didn’t notice until we swapped tires and the new ones are very quiet.

safety with slipping was our bigger push to change than noise.

I’ve had good luck with the OEM Falkens but when I came time to find a 35” tire I realized that they were incredibly heavy! These new tires seem to be even heavier… Ended up getting Toyo AT3’s that I’ve had on other trucks and been very happy.. just an opinion.

On the Falken website, I see that the 285-70-17C that comes on Rubicons and Mojaves weighs 62.8 lb, and is 32.8" diameter. 285-75-17E (33.9") are 65.5 lb, 315-70-17E (34.6") are 72.8 lb, 35x12,5R17E (34.8") are 75.4 lb, and 37x12.50R17D (36.5") are 82.5 lb. The 255-80-17E that I picked (33.1") is only 52.5 lb which is 10.3 lb lighter than stock while slightly taller.

The 35x11.5r17 Load C are 68 Lbs. Heavier then stock. Heavier then a Toyo AT3. But not too bad for a larger size. But Once you get wider and taller at the heavier load ranges, they are not a light tire for sure.

According to the DTC website, the Toyo AT III in 315-70-17D2 (34.41") weighs 67 lb; the 35x12.5R17C2 (34.531") weighs 59 lb and in E2, 71 lb.

Man, I was so stoked until I saw 68lbs for the C rated 35x11.5. It is probably a really tough tire though. I bought these Goodyears and they are 55lbs for the 315/70. I know they aren't as tough of a tire but boy a 13lb/tire increase would be hard to take.

On the plus side, Discount has the Goodyears for $209/tire which seems crazy. Good tire but a very soft tread. I doubt they will get 50k miles but they are amazing in the snow.

Goodyears grip like mad, especially on slickrock, but they wear like bubblegum.

The Wildpeak A/T and A/T2 were garbage. The A/T3W is really good, but left a lot of room for improvement. It looks like Falken has really taken the criticisms seriously with the redesign of the A/T4W.

While weight is still an issue, it's unavoidable when actually designing a tire for off-road use or for towing. The A/T4W looks to rank right up at the very top of the offroad-intended all-terrain heap along with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T. The 37's may very likely be my next set of tires.

The Falken Wildpeak A/T4W is here at last and the new A/T4W is shaping up to outshine its immensely popular A/T3W in every respect. This includes tread depth, weather protection, and on-and off-road performance.

The three-peak mountain snowflake weather indication and weather-focused tread composition and pattern give it the ability to tackle almost any weather condition.

The 35x11.50R17 will fit my stock JT Mojave wheels, which is my planned tire size when my current M/T tread is worn down. HOW MUCH ARE THE 35's (each? set of 4? set of 5?)?

I hear the current ones don't do well on snow once you hit about 20k miles on them. Are these any better?
We’re at 23k and having received considerable snow recently the tires have been just as good as last year at 6k.

Same construction as at3w with 3ply instead of two? I don't know if this is common or not but the way the at3w is constructed is read below:

That’s my problem also. I was hoping the weight came down. Tried to grab these from DT for my 392 but the same size toyos were 10lbs less per tire.

I have the falkens on my larger trucks and they are great but try to keep the rotating mass down on the jeeps

Lots of comments about weight.

If you take a 35 inch two ply sidewall tire and add a third ply to the sidewall (with sidewall toughness complaints driving that decision), the tire is going to increase in weight.

You can’t have it both ways gents. More materials and a stronger tire means heavier. Period.
