Is that a modified steel skid that wraps around the light bar? Pretty cool. What size light bar and how did you attach it?

Great points raised there, Dave. Ended up using the trash bin, instead just to be safe.I would be very careful with what kind of trailer, & what it's actual tongue weight is that you tow with that the way it is set up.
I sold Draw-Tite hitches for many years, and the engineers at Draw-Tite warned us more than once not to sell ball mount extensions as it was a major liability issue.
The weight ratings of receiver hitches are based on standard ball mount dimensions (the distance from the retainer pin centerline to the centerline of the trailer ball. This can vary depending on the vehicle the hitch is designed for, but usually falls between 8"-9" on a Class III hitch).
By extending the length of the ball mount beyond what it was originally designed for, you are adding a long lever to the reciever, and will greatly decrease your tongue weight rating.
If you attach a heavy trailer (you mentioned a dump trailer, which are normally rather heavy even when unloaded), something is going to bend, or break, which is the least of your worries.
If the trailer comes off while running down the road, someone could be killed.
Remember, you are not the only one out there on the road.
Just a few thoughts to consider.
Dave
Did you post any photos of the process or completion? Would be nice to find a diesel extended tank.Finished the instal on the Long Range America auxiliary fuel tank. Took two full days because I don’t have a lift, and it was bloody cold!
But, watching 34 gallons get squared away was awesome!
Now, my wife and I can go to the Bay Area and back without having to refuel in California with their ridiculous prices.
Good idea. I was worried that the dump trailer would have been too much for it. I’d check with the company, but maybe just remove it when towing.Great points raised there, Dave. Ended up using the trash bin, instead just to be safe.

Just rather everyone be safe, honestly.Good idea. I was worried that the dump trailer would have been too much for it. I’d check with the company, but maybe just remove it when towing.
I leave my hitch skid on 365 days per year, unless I’m towing. I have no desire to be rear ended, and I watch my mirrors and signal early to prevent it, but if it happens, maybe the skid will slide them under, like the boulders I hit with it on purpose.Just rather everyone be safe, honestly.
Other than that, I put that big’ol hitch there for those that like to tailgate.
I’ve been rear ended twice. Both times the hitch skid plate slid over the top of their bumper driving the car under the truck with no damage to my vehicle. Their grills did not look so good.I leave my hitch skid on 365 days per year, unless I’m towing. Glad to hear that you played it safe. ?Great points raised there, Dave. Ended up using the trash bin, instead just to be safe.

Outstanding.I’ve been rear ended twice. Both times the hitch skid plate slid over the top of their bumper driving the car under the truck with no damage to my vehicle. Their grills did not look so good.
No, I didn't. To be honest the weather was so crappy I just wanted to get it done.Did you post any photos of the process or completion? Would be nice to find a diesel extended tank.
