When I bought my Gladiator a few months ago, it came with an aftermarket air intake already installed. A few weeks ago I took her in and had the fuel pump recall completed. She is now displaying the check engine light and has code P026D-00.

The engineers at Chrysler claim that I have to reinstall the stock air intake (which I've never had) for them to properly test it. I took it back to the dealership where I bought it for them to help troubleshoot it. The service manager I spoke with said the ecodiesel is notorious for not working well with aftermarket products.

My questions are has anyone else had a similar issue crop up and does this engine have issues with aftermarket products?

I find it hard to believe that a cold air intake restricts air into an engine. I was a mechanic in the Navy so I understand diesels, I just don't have experience with aftermarket products.

Check the turbo intake tubes, mine had a crack and screwed up the mixture.

I don't have a snorkel.
Yeah, the point is it does have mass air flow sensor issues. It also has oil filter issues and cooling issues, for some at least. Most people with aftermarket air intakes report no issues but they do exist. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if an aftermarket intake actually restricts air. 90% of them are bull shit. I can guarantee you there’s no “cold air” to be found under the hood of the 3.0 Jeep and it seems to like it that way. But, yes a ram of outside air from a snorkel throws a code.

In your case the engineers just want to eliminate air flow as an issue in the air/fuel mixture by returning it to stock.

I don't recall the name of the intake currently installed (it's at the dealership), but is there any that the ecodiel likes? I noticed Banks doesn't even make one for it.

They only sell it for the 3.0D with the Cyclone centrifugal pre-filter now - they used to offer it with the ram-style intake for the diesel (like they do with the gas version) but apparently were deterred by the CELs. I guess the cyclone offers just enough restriction to keep the intake air sensors in their happy range.
