I know, though the Willys Wheeler was a good compromise between Sport & Rubicon. I was hoping it might be part Rubicon part Sahara. Still upgraded offroad stuff and also creature comforts for long distance driving.

That definitely sounds like a Sahara. What is different than a standard JL Sahara? Or different than a JT Sport (based on Jay's original post.)

Seems like you're getting heated seats, bigger wheels and painted fenders/bumpers... otherwise it's kind of what I was expecting from a Sport.

What if FCA reserves the use of "Gladiator" for a future release 2 DOOR version of the JT...and uses the name "Overland" on the 4 DOOR version of the JT?

Not sure that will happen as Overland already exists as an option package on GCs and JLs, so it would lead to a decent chunk of confusion I'd think.

Most of it IS cosmetic, except for these things- 3.73 axle ratio has previously only been indicated for the diesel- both standard and Rubicon spec. From what we'd seen so far, the JT was to have higher GCW numbers despite sharing the 3.45 axle ratios of the JL Sport and Sahara. The Axles models are the same as the JL Rubicon, and since they're called out here, I would assume that it's an upgrade over the regular JT axles. The Tires are a 33", roughly equivalent to the 255/85R16, but it look like it doesn't currently exist.

From the "Info Compilation" thread it looks like those axles are on all the JT... the different on Rubicon is that they're the Wide version.

It says 3.73 there too, but I'm not sure if that's default on the Sport or just mentioned arbitrarily... I'd expect the tow package to bump the ratio up like it did with the JK/JKU models anyway. Interesting observation on the tire size though... if those are street tires then /barf, but I'd take some KO2 in that size. I like tall, skinny tires on trucks (within reason.)

I've accepted that Overland just means Sahara in JT terms, so expect to hear an announcement for Sport/Overland/Rubicon on the 28th... I'd like to be surprised with a short/long bed option for those that want to keep it closer to JLU length, but it'll be whatever it will be. At this point, I'm ok not having to figure it out though... we're 3 short weeks away from a full-fledged, official reveal, so we'll all know the real details soon enough.

While I know it's likely just a guess, does it likely come down to these differences for an Overland vs. Rubicon spec JT:

- Selec-Trac 8 speed transmission standard (no manual option, no 8 speed option)

- Softer suspension (springs and shocks?)

- Narrower width axles (but same axle housings)

- Axle ratio 3.73 (vs 4.10)

- Front fenders painted and lower height

- Front bumpers painted (???)

- Chrome grille inserts

- Leather steering wheel & heated seats (leather seats are upcharge?)

- Rear sliding window (does this mean hardtop is standard on Overland?)

- Tonneau cover

- Street tires standard (vs. choice of slightly larger A/T or Mud tire)

- Wheels different

- Some other minor differences interior (door panels?)

- Exterior badges

Just trying to get it straight from what we know JT Overland spec verses existing JL Rubicon spec.

I think this statement needs to be reworked for accuracy.

I agree the selec-trac will only come with the auto tranny and not the manual. I don't have any reason to think the auto won't be the same 8 speed as in the JL. Remember the selec-trac refers to the tcase not the tranny itself.

And no joke on painted bumpers...it's why I was already leaning towards black plastic fenders (cheap to replace).

Not sure if you use your JT off-road that you want powder coating on bumpers or sliders. Hard to touch up. Over the years I've sort-of perfected a combo of bedliner + satin black rattle can on these parts.

If above is the case then I just keep coming back to a zero-option Rubicon.

I think I'll go with stock Rubi bumpers, but will end up with AEV, so whatever they coat their bumpers with...

Would you give up the 4:1 ratio for selec-trac if it came with lockers and sway disconnect? Like the NP242? I think it was 2.72:1.

Get a tru-trac installed. I like having a LSD all the time... and manual sway disconnects not that hard.
