Haha this makes me laugh in a sad way.

The service manager at the Jeep dealer I went to told me "he'd never heard of this problem" when I had them diagnose last year (and refused warranty). I knew he was lying to my face.

I ended up ordering the parts and doing the work myself.

If I cared enough I'd print the guy off a copy of this.

JT and WL vehicles built on or before August 19, 2024 (MDH 0819XX).
Great. I bought an old stock MY24 at the end of the year thinking I was getting a good deal since MY25 had no substantial changes. My build date is before August ... 😖

2800 or so RPM is around when the high lift portion of the VVL engages. Might want to consider an oil analysis and/or popping valve covers off for an inspection
So this issue is made worse by higher RPM? If so, I'm going to have to really consider an extended warranty or dumping the JT before the factory warranty expires. I drive 90-95% city stop and go, so I'm constantly going up and down the changeover rev-range, versus lower RPM highway cruising.

@AllMoparParts.com is this available now or back ordered still?

“The company has issued a special service kit which includes a new intake cam (only the one at fault, not both), rocker arms, sealer, and gaskets. The part number is 68661147AB for the right, and 68661146AA for the left.”

Hi Michael,
Still on backorder.

Like I tell anyone looking for these, If you need them place an order and reserve your spot or else off the shelf inventory may not be available until after the summer.

Yeah it is just saying if your over 60,000 ..here is the part # you have a problem with your motor, you buy part you pay labor fee etc.. its a " on you" thing for higher mileage JT's. So again everyone over 60,000 gets screwed.
I have 108K miles and I am still within my factory bumper to bumper warranty. This should be covered if I have the issue.

You mean extended warranty?
Yes. I just had the oil cooler, "Service Axle Locker", passenger sun visor and EVAP leak taken care of under warranty this week.

So is the rough idle on cold start indicative of cam issues? My 23 Mojave has 8000 miles and no tick whatsoever but it does seem to idle rough once it sits and it's started cold. I'd love to nip a problem before it comes up but also leary about having a dealer fool with it if nothing is broken. Always seems like they cause more problems than they fix, or has been my case.
Mine does the same. Especially while it’s idling down from start up. Seems to have gotten louder and lasts longer. Then seems sort of rough idle until temps reach 150 or so but the roughness isn’t consistent. Don’t remember my 18 JL doing this.

Same here but don't really notice any noise or anything else out of the ordinary. Just a rough idle at first. Other than that everything seems good.

I've found out through a tech doc on diagnosing high lift issues and from a tech - the PCM can and will engage high lift at lower RPM if it's called for. So if you try to keep RPM down like some want to do for some reason, but still want to make a hill or pull a load, the PCM tells it to open up so it can breathe and make more power.
Keeping it below 3,000 RPM won't keep it out of high lift mode, in other words.

So you bought an "extended warranty".
The factory, or original warranty, on yours ran out many miles ago.
