Actually, it is just the opposite. Diameter is the bigger power killer vs. weight. Because it changes your gear ratio. Putting taller tires on has the same net effect as installing HIGHER gears in the axles.

Example: If you have 3.73 gears and really wish you had 4.10 - that's about a 10% reduction in gear ratio and you'd be happy!

Now, take those same 3.73 gears and go from 33" tall tires to 37" tall tires - that's also gonna be a 10% difference in gear ratio....the OTHER direction. You've basically just changed your gear ratio to 3.357 gears. You would not be happy.

If you don't believe me - check your speedometer. It would be about 10% off. Screaming at you "Hey....I'm a running a higher gear ratio now!"

Weight certainly plays a factor - but I just read waaaaay too much emphasis on weight vs. height reading this forum. When it should be the other way around.
I have ko2s on both my Gladiator and the wife's FJ. Last set on her FJ lasted 109,000 miles. So that's my vote!

I never mentioned overall diameter because that’s so obvious it makes little sense to mention, as anyone should know that. But ok for your sake of argument, everything else being equal, weight is the enemy, especially unsprung weight. The fact you can go bigger overall does matter with effect on gearing, but you can use a narrower tire on lighter smaller wheel to offset the weight penalty. But adding hight to the tire counts.

Had a 2020 gladiator rubicon on 37’s Traded for jlur Xtreme recon. Recently bought a leftover 24’ Mojave. Wasn’t going to do much to .put onboard air, and got a matching wheel for the spare. Well… I lied to myself and want 35’s. Want to use factory wheels and no spacers. I’m interested in ko2 315/70/17 c , or Falken at4 35/11.50/17. I really like ko2 had them in three jeeps. Light weight is a plus. I worried about balancing issues, but had good luck in the past. I like the Falken s had them in both gladiators with good results. They are heavier than the ko2. Any advice on those tires on a Mojave with stock wheels would be appreciated. . Pictures would be be great too.
I put K02 on mine, you can see it in the avatar pic. But on the stock rims, they looked a little goofy like they were going to pop, so I put on some new wider rims, looks much better

Also no lift.

I installed Maxxis Rzr ATs (35s) on the factory black Mojave rims without any issues. Good affordable tire with great ratings.

Falken Wildpeak At4’s 35x11.5r17 on stock rubicon wheels. These tires are BEEFY, much beefier than the bfg KO2’s.

Did your gas mileage change much? Do you still see 8th gear?
