Just FYI for other readers, 37" K02 can squeeze into the stock spare space if you let some air out. Have to hold your mouth just right and raise it very carefully, but it will just fit. I can see how a true 38" would be a challenge.

Agreed. My 37’s fit and they’re larger than ko2’s. I’m trying to go slightly bigger with the next set of tires, without going to 40’s. I’d really love it if someone other than nitto made a 38x11.x17. That’d be perfect I’d I’d figure out a way to make it fit.

That’s FANTASTIC information. Thank you. So I can continue the search for a 38 that doesn’t, from what I’ve researched and been told, suck in wet and snowy conditions. Can you confirm that to be true with your tires?

I can't say I'm not super happy with the tires off road in comparison to the previous Cooper STT Pros, but they are A LOT quieter on road. I don't use this truck for hardcore off road, just basic overall spicy paced desert/fire road action and towing the RV. I have 35K on mine right now and they look to be better than 1/3 life remaining.

I would love to see more choices for the 38x11.50/38x12.50 option for sure!

If Mickey Thompson would come out with a 38, they’d fly off the shelves just like the Baja boss 37’s. But they go straight from 37 to 40.

I've sold a lot of 37" M/T's and would like to try a set myself, but with 4.10's.......I really like the 38's. If I could get 3.92's I would definitely drop back down o 37's for the ease of availability and gin 1" of front suspension up travel back.

39x12.50r17 kanati mud hogs have been great on the JLUR. Not sure it would fit under the JT but I was impressed enough with the 39s that I run them in a 37 on the JT and that fits with room to spare. A much better option than the 39" ko2s that are both smaller and wildly over priced.

Where does it get sprayed on the tire? I get the concept I believe, that it expands the air upon explosion and seats the bead. So do you spray it inside the tire, ignore and inflate simultaneously?
Yes, that is exactly right -- but wait, ignore which/what? *See special fire potential notice below. While I think this is a good backup plan, it is not risk free. We could do the math, but if you don't go too crazy, it really can't cause too much damage. The risks we take on the trail are way less than this IMO, but hey, Buyer Beware...

From an audible experience, it gives you the satisfying pop-pop-pop of a typical seating but maybe a bit faster than using conventional methods.

With the wheel and tire laying flat on the ground spray a couple seconds worth of fluid into the cavity and in a continuous motion bring it out, over the tire sidewall...and lead it a couple feet away. Best to have people and pets away. Light it pretty quickly as it is very volatile with little latency of evaporation, especially in the desert...

Have the CO2 tank or compressor ready...it is actually fun to watch and despite appearances, not as frightening as it seems. I may have a video somewhere!

Oh, and watch the dry brush. I heard you can start a fire that way!

I've always done it with the tire still on the Jeep. Jack it up to take the weight off, spray starting fluid inside, throw a match, hit it with the compressor.

Oh yeah, that works fine too...and is actually safer if you get a bit too exuberant with the fuel. That wheel/tire can't go anywhere. It's hard to imagine how much fuel it would take to move it meaningfully.

Good time for an unrelated but maybe useful PSA: My built 2012 JKUR burned to the ground in Death Valley, so I keep a couple fire extinguishers handy (one was not enough). Insurance quickly paid 95% of the original cost but lost all my mods...about $50K down the drain...painful lesson. Problem is I just don't know what the lesson was! I quit Jeeps a while but came back...

In my particular example, this wheel/tire was off a friend's rig, full of dirt and was already off. This method helps clear some crap out, but if you are dealing with a situation where you lost a bead and need to clear stuff out, maybe better to take it off and try to clear the debris. A little dirty residue on the bead isn't really an issue here...

I was helping a buddy install tires on his beadlock wheels. He hooked up the air to seat the bead without installing the beadlock ring. He stood there trying to figure out why it wouldn't seat. More hilarious than dangerous. After a few moments I handed him the ring and said you might need this. I swear he muttered something about senior moment. 38" Patagonia's will fit if you have a track bar like Clayton's with the bend.

I've removed a wheel, set it on a bucket that we had, used some dish soap to seat one bead, then soaped up the other side, installed a ratchet strap to snug the tire up, and hit it with air. I had an ARB twin, so a little more volume.

Yeah. I liked the sizes they offer for 17” wheels, but it seems that everything else is nowhere near Mickey Thompson. I just want my Baja bosses in 38” so badly. Yet, not available.
I think you can squeeze a 38 under one if you take off the heatshield and convert to a rear triangulated 4 link..

I have the Clayton bent track bar relocation bracket just mounted the relocation bracket from TF. Much more parallel now.
