Hello all,

I was recently reading another poster's thread about a new air intake system and noted that the installation reduced the maximum water crossing depth by several inches. That got me to thinking. I have yet to encounter any crossings deeper than 12" in my 2025 Nighthawk with the stock 275/55R-20's, but would guess that in semi-still crossings 24" would not be much of an issue. Obviously, the speed of any current would figure on reducing that, based on the width of the crossing, but I am not the kind of driver to go full throttle across said water, rather slow and steady and not create much additional turbulence is my style.

Downstairs neightbors have those Toyota overlanders with snorkles and they can obviously go deeper. But the reality is I do not expect to ever encounter such depths around So Cal.

Peace.

ehh i wouldn't worry about it. You can go as Deep as you fell comfortable. Odds are the truck will float and lift before you get it deep enough to ingress water into anything serious. I've taken my Mojave into everything I took my old snorkel Tundra in. The main reason Toyotas get a snorkel is because they have a shit intake design. It pull directly from the wheel well. and if your lift deletes the liner, you can imagine how awful that is for any offroading.

Toyota got this one right and Jeep needs to copy their homework.

When I was changing the air filter I noticed the bottom of the air box has drain holes - which makes sense, but these are just holes. That means water will come in as easily as it drains out. Toyota has one-way drain valves that let water out of the air box, but won't let it in. That raised intake is great, but doesn't mean anything when you have vacuum sucking water and dust in the bottom of your air box. 🙄

The 80 series Land Cruiser also has a cyclonic pre-cleaner airbox that separates most dirt before it even reaches the filter.

I wouldn't go higher than the door line (baring an emergency) just for the simple fact of not wanting to have the dry the interior out.

That is my attitude as well. I laugh at folks who decide after some liquid courage to throttle up and blast through a creek unaware of what is lurking beneath (think boulders)

Years ago, a buddy of mine thought it would look cool to get his K5 Blazer up to about 60mph and hit Holcomb Creek and spray all of us. Both rear tires went their separate ways and he split the pumpkin. He got trailered out late that night.

This Ranger doesn't have fender liners and the engine bay was covered after stuffing water into the air box.

Mud seems like a good idea; it's 5 minutes of fun, but 5 years of shit falling in your eyes every time you try to change the oil.
I'm happy to accept all the mockery for driving around the mud, but I'm also not the one who is under the Jeep with a pressure washer laying in muddy water for an hour trying to clean it off.

I use the hose and let the next rain storm take care of the rest.

I put diff breathers on my air box holes. Let’s water out, doesn’t let water in

I was thinking about finding some Toyota parts, but I'd have to get the airbox out and survey where the drains would fit - which is a challenge on the diesel. Diff breathers are a brilliant idea - did you do a writeup for it?

I did not. It seem intuitive too me for anyone else who cares but I can do a write up if enough people ask

doesn't seem as aggressive a design as the toyota but i see what you. the main reason i crap on yotas is cus i've done 3 hydrolocked ones for seemingly small puddles.
