Went on additional drive for dinner and around. while running it was fine. Went to start after dinner and it did a long start with no run. Attempted second start and it started with very brief rough idle then fine. No code and no ESS light. Ran fine after that.
The camera has an SD card I could upload on my laptop and see if that helps the picture. I’ll be taking it to work again to see what it does. Hopefully the folks at OBD MX will actually ship my dang dongle so I can use the Jscan.

This morning wasn't what I would have hoped for. First start was a no light off. Second start was rough and immediately through an engine light and of course the A light. Turned it off. Hooked up the 5610 and had my first P0300 but pending.
Turned it off, then started again and the engine light and the A light were off but it was smoother. Started to drive away and seemed to notice a tapping that wasn't there before. Drove a little bit further and it of course wasn't getting better so turned around and parked it. Used a mechanics stethoscope to try to tell for sure what side it was coming from and it was the the right or passenger side. Mind you, it's not a rod knock but it is a noise that wasn't there before.
I'll have to wait until I get home today from work but I'm going to pull the VC and take a closer look at the lobes.
I really wouldn't expect to have these kinds of issues (and quite frankly haven't had them until now) with a modern engine with only 70k on the clock. That was the whole point of buying one under 100k.

Really would be nice to get a tally of the misfires for each cylinder. However, if one bank is lean, for example, it could be trying to compensate and causing other misfires. So the whole story might be necessary short of a visual of the physical parts.

That video of the mobile diagnistics guy getting a bunch of weird codes, then finding the cam issue - some of it really was hard to see why those other codes were coming up. But then these don't monitor the exact oxygen content from each cylinder alone, it's all on that bank.

These can monitor the ignition - and a freeze frame can show if there's an ignition misfire under certain conditions, but otherwise, it's a bit of generalization - it was a misfire.

Haven’t pulled the valve cover yet. Been too hot in the garage here in NM. My OBD reader for Jscan is supposed to be delivered today so hopefully that works and I can see individual cylinders.

These are a couple scans I did after getting Jscan running. I haven’t figured out how to get history but there are zero codes. As you can see, no misfires. How is that? When I first started, I got 1 mf on nbr 1cyl, 5on nbr2, 0 on 3 and 4 and 1 on 6.
Did an on/off cycle several times and drove around the block and zero MF.
It was quiet or normal noise.
i have to figure out what the fuel numbers mean ie how to interpret them.

Battery is holding at 12.4 and Alternator shows 14.21. I don’t have an AGM battery charger or I’d bump that up.

Have the tool ready to go for your next cold start. Does the jscan program have an rpm limit for misfires? If not I would suggest reving to high lift. It may go to high lift but to be sure rev to 3500 and hold.

It will show max misfires during that session. So if you start, and stop the engine and start it again, and have fewer misfires it may show more from the last run.

It can go to high lift mode just putting it under load at lower RPMs.

He should be able to find when it changes lift modes, I don't recall where, however..

12.4 is low, but not low enough to cause a problem.

I’ll keep it hooked up on drive to work if it runs.

Try doing that on Hughesnet. You'd want to kill the advertisers not buy their crap.

On your last post, the ad was 5 times larger. These ads are useless. Subliminal or not, I don't look at them. Oh wait, let me click on that! I've always want one piece pajamas. Give me a break. I never see by-pass cable ad or a obd2 scan tool ad. But god forbid if I ever have the urge to by a Toyota, at least there's an ad for it.
