First time filling up today with the new-to-me diesel Gladiator. I had about 1/4 tank or less when I parked at the pump. No low fuel warning yet. I was surprised how much it took to fill up… 16.3 gal.

I knew the diesel fuel tank is 18.3 gal. I would’ve expected 16.3 gal to be an amount it would require to fill from a very low tank on E, not from 1/4 tank ish. In other words I expected to pump less fuel today to fill it from 1/4 tank or slightly below.

What’s been everyone else’s experience with filling up from empty or close to it?

Did you quit pumping when the nozzle clicked off, or kept going until you could see fuel in the neck? If you stopped when the nozzle clicked off. There is another 2.5 to 3 gallons that you could put in. Remove the nozzle restrictor in the neck so that you can see the fuel easier and that you can put different size nozzles in. You will run into some gas stations that will use a gas size nozzle on the diesel pump and it won't fit. The diesel nozzle is smaller in diameter.

I see what you’re saying, but I expected to pump LESS fuel to fill it today, not more. I waited a 20 count after it clicked off, then I set the trigger on the slowest setting with the tab lock. It might have taken another half gallon before it clicked off again. I’ve seen some diesel stations use large nozzle that doesn’t even fit gas cars’ filler neck. I can’t remember if those were only at commercial fueling stations or not. Probably were.

That seems about right to me.

I've had mine almost 2 years and that's about where I set at low to E.
I'm a glass half empty guy when it comes to diesel so $38/$40 at half is easier to handle ;)

I tend to go to the truck stop diesel islands when I'm away from home like 99% of the time. Truck stops are going to roll over fuel faster than a mom-&-pop or Casey's in the middle of Wyoming, not doing that again.

You'll get used to all three types of pump nozzles pretty quick - wait until you see the old fat one with the huge lip that's fun, ran into those last week in South Dakota and Wyoming BFE.

I keep the adapter that comes with the Jeep and a few others in a husky tote bag on the drivers side tailgate along with EDT and a few tools - plus the hammer. Get used to having a roll of blue towels when dealing with gas stations you'll need to clean up fuel and DEF and they are always hit or miss on paper towels.

I guess I don’t have the adapter. What is that? And what hammer?

Sounds about right I had a diesel Rubicon and it never took much more than that. Enjoy, it’s a powerhouse for its size.

I guess I was lower on fuel than I thought. I mean, I didn’t even get a low fuel warning yet.

Sorry I meant "the hammer" to fix all issues ;) It's just a little craftsman that I tend to wack everything with.

The fuel adapter is a little black funnel that fits your intake it should be under your back seat with the door/top tool kit. My advice is get a 1 gallon zip lock (or 10) and keep it, your EDT and a spare DEF nozzle in it somewhere easy to get to that's not inside the cab. Even in a bag the edt/def will leak and smell up the cab.

The best part of over landing is pulling into a truck stop on the diesel island and having 1-2 truckers walk over to look at it " wait ... that's a diesel, really?". My general answer is "it better be or I'm in trouble". I end up talking allot about Jeep's during fill ups.

There is 3 different size of nozzles. The smallest diameter is the auto diesel nozzle. Then the auto gas nozzle. The biggest is the big rig nozzle. Like I said before. Some gas stations put the gas nozzle on the diesel pump. That won't fit unless you use the funnel, or remove the restrictor. There is a thread on how to do it.

When mine clicks off. I can put another 2.5 to 3 gallons in it, if I squeeze the pump handle lightly. But you have to watch out for the foaming. When it foams up. Wait a few seconds and start again until you see the fuel in the neck. Don't worry about the evap canister, because there isn't one.

Can someone post a picture of where this funnel and tool kit should be? The owners manual was useless. It just says I have a funnel. Doesn’t say where. I think the funnel and tool kit are missing from my truck.

It could be under the back seat drivers side. I want to say there’s a little net like pocket. Auto parts stores sell them.

Not to hijack the tread but it’s kinda inline. Anyone got advise or trick to keep the foaming down while fueling? It stakes an extra 5-16 minutes sometimes to fully fuel up to the top lip.
