I have a Mojave and I've been torturing myself on what tires/rims to go with in the future, but due to circumstances I'm taking a change of course.

I had a set of 35x12.5x17 Maxxis Trepador M8060 come my way via a friend, but they are bias ply, and super aggressive. So, I'm thinking of just throwing them on some wheels to use for off road only use. I figured I could pick up some inexpensive steelies somewhere, but I'm not seeing much out there. I think ideally, something 8"-9" w/25"ish offset would be great, but the limited stuff I'm running across has zero to negative offsets resulting in major tire poke.

Alternatively, I could look for some used stock Mojave (love the stock look) or Rubicon rims and mount the 12.5s on the 7.5" rims 😱.

What say you?

They are +6 and poke a little more than i'd like, but they work. The temporarily out of stocks usually don't last that long. They used to be a lot cheaper. I bought mine for like 72/ea on sale. I think they used to list for 85 or 90

As a bonus, you can see what they look like on a Gobi here:

There are some things where you get what you pay for, my rule is to not skimp on anything that comes between me and the ground: Shoes, socks, tires, mattresses, and wheels top that list.

Cheap steel wheels don't like 35" tires, the forces exerted by that much mass with that much leverage tends to bend the barrel of the wheel when hitting bumps. We had some ProComp 15" steelies on the LJ and managed to bend 3 out of four just driving around town and on the highway.

I've only seen one alloy bend, and I've never seen one break. I rolled on factory alloys for decades off road and beat on them like a rented anvil, they were gouged all the way to the hub, covered in rock rash, and suffered more time in flight than some aircraft - never once bent or broke.

Get yourself some generic steal wheels. They look to be about $70 a piece.
Back in my younger wheelin’ days…those puppies were only $45.

We beat the piss out of them for years. There was only one occasion where the wheel got ‘bent’ ever so slightly (out of round) causing a vibration on road.

Thanks for sharing. My intention isn't to get cheap crap, but rather I wanted to make it clear I'm not looking for some pimped out show rims, as these won't stay on the jeep.

I really would have figured a simple steel rim would hold up.

This was more along my line of thinking, hoping to find something that doesn't stick the tires out an extra foot 😄

Shocked to see Amazon sells the stock JEEP steelies.

Thinking if they are made for JEEP, they'd have to be JEEP spec, and JEEP strong.

Good luck on finding what you like.

Try rims on a dodge mini van same size.

You're in SoCal, we have stock Jeep wheels coming out of our ass. Wrangler or Gladiator stockers - take your pick. Here's an example of 4 Rubicon OEMs for $200.

Hey, if you need stock Rubicon alloys and are near Salt Lake we can make a deal. I was going to use them on a trailer at some point, but they can go to a good home.

I have 4 OEM Mojave wheels for sale….but, apparently I’m asking too much cuz FB peeps keep lowballing me. 😳 That’s OK….they can sit in my basement forever, as long as I care. 😆
