Best RTT tent and bed rack to mount it on

Planning my overland build. Looking for a hardshell roof top tent that you can mount solar panels on and a low profile bed rack to mount it on that will work with a weathertech roll up tonneau cover. Would like to keep the tent flush with the roof line. Looking for recommendations on a good affordable setup.

Check out Billie Bars. They make a low profile bed rack (5" and 8") that work with most all tonneau covers. I use the 8" with the mopar tri-fold tonneau and have a RoofSpace "hybrid" hard shell tent that is only about 9" tall and 147lbs and opens up to a full soft shell tent. Very happy with both and Ive put several thousand miles of dirt roads/trails on them so far. I also added the Billie Bars 3.5" tent risers, and this combo has the tent sitting about an inch below the cab height.

If you have a roll up cover then the 8" Billie Bars for sure. The 5" ones you won't be able to more then likely. Unless you are dead set on a hardshell, post in the want to buy section looking for a CVT tent. They had an insane sale last year and I'm sure there is some buyers remorse on an impulse buy. (Those who ended up not using it or decided it wasn't for them.)

I have the Rebel Off-Road Xplor Full Height Bed Rack. I like it and it works great and they have a ton of accessories for it. I did come across this one from Xtrusion that looks pretty interesting that makes accessing the bed and the equipment mounted on the inside way easier.

I have a Tuwa Shiprock half rack, a Roof Space 2 tent, and a Truxedo Sentry CT tonneau cover. It all works and fits great.

The tent is pricey but great quality. It has an aluminum case that is flat and strong enough to stand on so no issue with mounting solar on top. It's 9" tall so pretty compact. I was one of the early bird purchasers of this tent when it got launched on Kick Starter so I got it for a pretty good price.

I got a budget rack from Amazon and then tossed my Top Oak up there just two weeks ago. Building out my set up now. The Top Oak is awesome, hard shell with racks for solar.

Like your setup. I am really interested in the Topoak tents. One thing I see though is if I use a half height rack I would not be able to use the side window that faces the back of the cab. How much does the tent stick up past the roof line when its closed?

I want to say it's 10-12" depending on how close you put it to the roof. I'm about 1/2" off the roof.

I have a rebel offroad half rack and topoak vision. I can still use the side window, but I had to make my own support rods for it with a bend to clear the cab.

However, opening up that window is annoying because you have to climb into the tent and do it from the inside, so I'm looking at just keeping the window awning rolled up or adding some velcro to keep it closed against the tent.

RCI makes a great product. I ran their skid plates on an older ranger. Strong as hell.


They also offer an aluminum version if youre concerned about weight. 68lbs for aluminum, 95 for steel.

I run a rebel off road full height rack with the side and rear hatch panels that open for easy access and security and the intrepid geo 2.5 tent and that setup is about 8” above the roof line but I’m ok with that.

For your setup I would look at Rebel off roads half rack and the ikamper sky camp mini

What rack are you using from Amazon, and how much space is under the bottom bracket, it almost looks like you could fit a tono cover under it .
