To weld aluminum or let someone else do it?

Well I had to let myself learn to let someone else do it so both apply. I can do basic welding. Aint pretty but it’ll get the job done. Figured aluminum couldn’t be that much harder. I was wrong.

There is definitely an art to welding aluminum. Low heat for starters. A welder friend told me that in welding class they had to learn to weld two aluminum cans together. They melted a lot of cans before figuring out how to do it.

I can’t even weld aluminum!!!! I tried and burnt through about 3 inches of tubing to intercooler piping before I said “Nope”. Let someone else take care of it.

In my small sample size, it seems like most women pick up TIG faster than most men because they’re typically more patient and have more of an eye for detail.

I bought a small MIG machine two years ago, along with gloves, a nice helmet, some extra consumables, and some odd and end tools.

It's all sitting in the box, lol. It's even moved to a new house.

I'll get it out and learn on it eventually.

It’s the middle of the the winter….weather is crappy & cold….time to get things ready for the spring. We’ve owned our little 17.5’ Tracker bass boat since 2017. Boat insurance renewed…Hull Registration…..submitted. License plate good till 2028. Fishing licenses good till end of 2026. Check, check, and check.

Trailer Tires are original… 8 years old…. It‘s time to get some new ones and hopefully prevent a catastrophic failure on the roadway. But wow… after 8 years, we had a little bit of wear on the inner edge. Glad we’re getting this done now.

Make sure and repack the wheel hub bearings while your at it. Hub seal make sure its still good shape.
Edit : Oh hey @Janster those rims are 5 lug by change are they 5x5 127 ?? You could find some used Jeep rims and put on there for a matching look

Shoot - make sure you check the spare tire mount too, if your boat trailer has one.

My buddy took his to the lake a few months back and told me the spare tire mount jettisoned itself from the tongue where he then proceeded to run the whole thing over. Took out all the fender and step on one side of the trailer.

Said it was quite surprising to say the least

Then, with further irony, he had a flat on the non hit side on a subsequent trip - after his spare tire and mount were gone.
