Hi all and apologies if this thread seems similar to previous ones asked. I tried a search for previous threads but didn’t really find anything along the lines of what I wanted to ask.

I’m slowly kitting out my new JT. Not being independently wealthy it’s a protracted process and I need to prioritize what I spend on. So I figured I’d crowd source some ideas and steal the ones I like. 😁

What gear do you consider essential for your daily driving?

Also when you head out on a road trip, say camping or some light off roading what do you consider essential to have?

I’m thinking in the general sense and not necessarily specific activities like rock crawling or mud bogging for example.

So for like daily driving I’m thinking along the lines of a first aid kit, road flares, tow rope, jumper cables, fire extinguisher, etc.

Just curious what other folks consider ‘essential’ though and don’t like being on the road without. Thanks in advance!

You pretty much nailed the bare essentials, imo.

Daily driver I just carry jumper cables in every vehicle I own.

Camping and light off roading? Tow strap and soft shackles. Folding chairs. First Aid kit. Extinguisher easily accessed from outside the vehicle. Large standalone battery backup but that's always in the Jeep anyway.

Actually long involved wheeling trip? The list is very long.

Daily- I carry my jack,a set of jumper cables, my regular tool kit, water, and a couple Element fire extinguishers. We get a lot of wildfires here and the factory jack won’t reach my frame safely.

Wheeling- See above, plus recovery kit and some type of food stuff. Usually life boat bars or something that in case things go especially bad. Always have a tarp because it’s a tarp and contractor trash bags because those things are absolutely amazing for just about anything.

A few others-
Flashlight/headlamp
Multitool (Leatherperson)
Air compressor
Tire repair kit
Phone holder/charger
Traction boards
I carry a lot more than that, but I like to be prepared.

Never heard of life boat bars but I figured it out. What’s a good one to try?

Curious about ‘life boat bars’ now but we have ‘pilot bread’ here which I’m guessing might be similar.

Love the tarp and trash bags idea! Thank you.

None of em are really “great” but they’re not supposed to be. They’re just calorie dense and keep you alive. I’ll dig mine out tomorrow and see what brand they are. Think I picked up a pack on Amazon.

Love the tire repair kit idea. Can I ask what one you have and if you have had to use it?

Harbor freight sells a decent one. I’ve only had to use one once. Kid brought a new to him XJ and it turned out the tires had a bit of rot to them. Blew the first one so we swapped out to the spare. Blew the second one and we made his sidewall look like a hedgehog. I think it took about 10 plugs to get that sealed enough to get him back to camp. Nobody else had a spare that would fit his hub for some reason. Lessons learned.

In my truck all the time (in no particular order):

- First aid, rain gear, tire repair kit, small fishing pole and fishing kit, gloves, safety glasses, four tie ropes, a couple ratchet straps, bungee cords, 2M/70CM handheld radio, tape measure, pair of GMRS radios, several LED lights (flash lights, head lamp, etc), a bluetooth speaker, work boots, ear protection, full socket set, both my tool rolls (wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, etc, etc) a serpentine belt tool kit, long handle flex head 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets, breaker bar, 3/8 torque wrench, my entire electrical tool kit for wiring stuff, jumper cables, air compressor, tree saver, snatch block, pull strap, weed trimmer string, a tarp, trash bags in two sizes, grocery bags, dude wipes, hatchet, hand saw, 15" adjustable wrench, 3 pound hammer, cordless impact, various Milwaukee 12V tools....

I am probably forgetting something.

As far as I'm concerned ALL of it is essential and I am probably missing things.

Oh! I wanted to keep a couple small food kits in mylar bags behind the seat. I keep two bottles of water in the back cup holders. That's come in handy a few times.

To be fair, I have three houses I sometimes have to solve problems at, I take care of my mom and her high mileage car, and I do a lot of electrical projects on the side and my commute is 70 miles round trip. So I stay ready for a lot of weird circumstances.

I don’t remember what kit I have but find one with bacon strips (long sticky plugs) and the t handle tools to insert them. A good kit will have glue, extra valve cores and a valve rethreading tool. Better ones have other tools.
