I recall back when I had my 17 TRD Sport, manual, I drove that 16k kms before draining oil in manual tranny and diffs and all 3 components were 1/2 full from the factory. I was pissed I drove that long with insufficient oil.
That is crazy total incompetence, that is yet another reason I will never own a Toyota

I think the lone oil topper up guy got fired and moved over to Chrysler assembly line to be their oil guy. He’s probably since been fired from there and now works at your dealership.

Generally speaking its the same amount that initially drains out and what's left in the pan that same amount goes back in.
After changing filter and placing pan back. It is filled to the plug hole . Started put in the temp range gears cycled then while idling more added until it starts running out the hole a little again.
Disclaimer : that's a simplified paraphrase version.
(The reason sometimes its more is because they have found on occasion that some shipped with the fluid level slightly low.) And owner may not have been aware .
this. I followed the procedure that you fill it until it dribbles out after running through the gears in the proper temp range.

I like @AllMoparParts.com. dang orders were perfect every time. & Benny usually has a discount for shipping .
All of the Mopar online stores all have the filter, gasket and pan together as a kit for close to $200. I just need the filter. Unless Benny can just get the filter.

What year is your truck? I believe yours is a diesel, right, and it’s a whole kit (pan, gasket, filter)?

Never a bad idea to carry an extra pan on the trail. Theres always that “one guy” who goes out without skid plates. That’s the guy who is gonna need it.

(P.S.- I don’t have skid plates yet.) :bandit:

It's a '22 diesel. Just need the filter. Not the whole kit.

When the time comes to change the ATF fluid in my '24 JTR or even now in my '16 JKU (49k miles on it), after reading all the things, steps, cautions, etc. on the threads here, I wish I could find a reliable company (or mechanic) that could do it for me (I'm in South Florida, Miami/Keys area). I'm more of a plug-and-play guy and when the stuff gets too many steps involved, I will defer to someone who knows what they are doing. Installing my winch was about as far as I want to go. Which makes me question who at a dealership even knows what they are doing. Are they following the ZF steps as listed?

Any recommendations for this stuff in South Florida?
I can't comment on the Miami area, but I recently had a pan drop done by my selling dealer. My vehicle was already in for a different repair and the price for a pan drop was not insanely high, so I pulled the trigger and got it done. The details are shown on the attached invoice.

After having had some other work done by a couple of local independents over the last few years, I chose my selling dealer for this job because their techs are qualified, the independents couldn't beat the price, and the warranty provides peace of mind in case of a leak or mechanical issue.

As long as there are no leaks, the transmission shifts more smoothly, and the ATF level is good, I figure that the job has been done right. To check the level yourself, see ATF LEVEL CHECK procedure in SECTION 12 of Pan Drop Instructions.

Tip: Insist that the tech doing the work use a torque wrench for all fasteners, including the fill plug (26 ft-lbs). This should ensure that you are able to remove the fill plug later, to do a level check, without using a breaker bar.

You make a good point about the warranty, something that would typically be more limited if at all by many independents. At least with the dealer you do have some recourse if anything goes wrong.

Finding anyone who can do something right today is totally amazing, shocking, even. And yes, if a dealer does it, at least you have warranty. These quicky places and some independents scare me.
Now that I can't lay under a vehicle, I'll likely let a lot of things go a lot longer.........
This week, my wife's JLU goes back because the Total Truck place our dealer had install the power steps totally f'd things up and now has to pull them off again and replace the rocker panel strips, reinstall interior trim and replace the switch bracket that they did NOT take out of our other Jeep like they were told to.
Morons. Can't get anyone to do things correctly - in this case, they didn't even follow the directions with the steps!

I guess I need to give away most of my engine equipment, a 343 engine, a stack of NOS seat upholstery and pallet shelves full of parts so I have room for a lift.
