Here we go again !! Jeep - 0, Diesel Fuel Pump - 2

So I 'm posting this to vent a little, poke fun at the situation and maybe get some sympathy from like minded people, so here we go again.

I've had my diesel 3.0 since Sep of 2022 and almost 70k miles. It has been great! I love the torque and the MPG and I still believe that with some tweaks this engine is great!

I enjoyed about 1.5 trouble free years until the first pump gave out, like at bout 30k some miles. I was without the jeep for about 39 days. I understand, it was during the parts shortage but the dealership was super difficult to work with, and @JeepCares got involved. The biggest issue was the lack of communication from everyone and the fact I had to wait like a week before getting a loner. But at the end I stuck it out and Jeep responded with an extended warranty plan that covered me until 125K.

But here we are again at almost 70K miles the pump gave out again, but this time feels like different. When I tried to arrange a tow it felt like I was playing phone tag with jeep wave, jeep and the warranty plan. After everything was said and done I ended up paying $160 for the tow, which was like 5 miles all together, and I had to use the same dealership. I was told that they had a new service team and that the experience would be different, it was different, this time I had to wait 3 weeks to get a loaner, so there's that. And now I'm almost at the 4 week line and there's parts issues again, something about a hard line, with no ETA.

So I guess it's anyone's bet to see if I beat my previous record of 39 days

Maybe I can get some decals of the CP4 pump with a layer on top and put 2 of them next to my badges of honor

So... Has anyone been thru 2 fuel pumps yet??

My first fuel pump went out and I think at 4,781 miles. They replace that one free of charge with a loaner Gladiator gasser. So now I had a warranty pump and then the recall came out and they put in what they said was the upgraded version. I'm at 80,000 miles minus the initial loss of the fuel pump The question is are you using any lubrication in the diesel? And have you looked at RCD fuel pumps.

I believe they are replacing both since the jeep was a no start both times.

On my Ram, I had to replace the lift one time. 150 thousand miles on the same high pressure pump. My wife’s grand Cherokee 2015 high pressure fuel pump was changed under recall. Now I also have a 2022 gladiator with 60 thousand miles on it. I don’t think ether pump has been changed

Sorry to hear. Do you always keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel and use an additive like Hotshot? Have you run the tank empty? It is unfortunate that some dealer service centers have limited experience with the Ecodiesel, but poor customer service is unacceptable. Best of luck..

I try my best to do all, my commute is about 45 mins so try to keep the tank above 1/4. I also use hotshots but I’ll go about a month between bottles, bottle last for a while.

I know we all want to be responsible owners but sometimes it’d feels a bit excessive? Or maybe it’s just me

It is a bit excessive, the vehicle wasn’t designed to require an added fuel lubricant. But we know this lol, preaching to the choir.

Not near the miles as you, but I had the original until 30,000 miles and then had the recall completed. Only been 3000 miles on the new pump. Never had a problem just decided to get it done finally.

Unless there is a manufacturing defect, I think it boils down to fuel quality. I have 10+ years' worth of data. I feel comfortable changing the fuel filter at 3 years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first. I own and operate three EcoDiesels. So far, I've never lost a HPFP, but I also treat the fuel. I still haven 't changed the fuel filter on the 2023 Jeep Gladiator, but here are my other filter change logs.

Unless there is a manufacturing defect, I think it boils down to fuel quality.

That's the theory that makes the most sense to me as well. I can't help but wonder what the fuel filters look like when changed, how often are those filters changed, and what kind of fuel stations are normally used (smaller stations vs truck stop, especially concerning their volume/turnover rate of diesel, what percentage of biodiesel used, etc).

While crappy luck may well play a role, there just seems to be way too many people that have no fuel pump problems to not think there's got to be some underlying common cause for the handful of people stricken with multiple HPFP failures.

Did you see the Dave's Auto video of the Ford Powerstroke owner that had 900,000 miles on his factory CP4 pump? When they tore it down, it still looked like a new pump. The owner always used a fuel additive and most likely filled up at the big truck stops.

I also fill up 99% of the time at Love's Truck stops. For years, I ran biodiesel for lubrication, but now that biodiesel is hard to find (due to a nationwide shortage), I now rely heavily on a fuel additive for lubricity.
