Correction: Replace "higher gears" with "the highest gear reasonable for that speed." You don't have to be going 55-60 mph to get the best mpg. You can get 20+ mpg at 35 mph in the right gear.your most efficient use of fuel comes when you're at a steady state cruise at moderate speed in higher gears.
