your most efficient use of fuel comes when you're at a steady state cruise at moderate speed in higher gears.
Correction: Replace "higher gears" with "the highest gear reasonable for that speed." You don't have to be going 55-60 mph to get the best mpg. You can get 20+ mpg at 35 mph in the right gear.

I rode past Rubitrux in Boone NC on the way to Blowing Rock today, with the wife and a grand young ‘un. So I’m sitting on the porch of this mom ‘n pop motel I’ve been staying in for thirty years, and a Wrangler rolls up the road, CLEARLY rocking a V8…

Good thing the woman is riding with me, because I have to ride back by Rubitrux tomorrow due to paving on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I’m going up to Boone next week. I’ll have to see if I can swing by there.

You meant to say TURBO CHARGED 4.0 inline 6 right?
If they could take take the inline 4.0 out of my '99 TJ and put a turbo on it, I'd love to have that in my JTR.

I have never seen high 20s, like 25 max and usually run aroun 19-20.. Even with that it comes with a $2/gal premium.

I'm getting 19-20+ on 37s and 3.5 lift with a Canopy, RTT and Awning, mixed driving 50 miles a day at 70mph average on hwy. If I slow down to speed limit of 60mph it goes up to about 23. On long trips from VA to MI I've hit 26 mpgs. Prior to 37s and lift Iwould get 30 mpgs on long trips.

Watched a TFL towing video up the Ike Gauntlet comparing a Gladiator, Ridgeline and GMC Canyon all towing a ~5000# trailer.

While the Jeep only had 3.73 gearing it was the worst of the bunch. The guys even said that the engine (or more specifically the truck) needs a better engine and mentioned a V-8! Watch the oil temps climb on the Jeep!

We’re not dead yet!😎

I can't say I'm shocked that the turbo motor GMC towed better, or that even the Ridgeline with a similar engine as the Gladiator and shorter tires / more aerodynamic body did better.

250* oil temps on an uphill climb at just short of 5,000 RPM doesn't particularly worry me. Only if it ran that temp for hours, which is unlikely. If you are pushing the truck hard like that, should probably shorten the oil change intervals up some.

Anyway. I still agree, a little more power wouldn't hurt.

We kept a Wrangler MOAB 392 for a day about a month ago.

Still have our Gladiator.

Made cool noises, was faster... But a normal Hemi Ram seems punchier.
I'd guess the shorter tires and not being AWD only helps in the Ram, and aren't all new 5.7 Rams E-Torque only? Little extra oomph at real low speed.

To that point, I don't want a 392 Wrangler on 35s, either.

Or a 392 Gladiator on 35s, lol.

5.7 on my '33s' would be lovely.
