With all the auto companies that Stellantis owns, I don't understand why "someone" out there doesn't have a powerful 4 or 6 cylinder turbo that "might" make some of us happy. They did it with the Italian 3.0 diesel, and who knows what else is available for an off the shelf engine.

Now that I think about it, maybe it's because many of the more powerful engines are diesels that are sold in Europe and not here.

I could only guess.
The Grand Cherokee now comes with the Hurricane 2.0L, 324HP/332TQ on certain trim levels. This is not the same 2.0L that is available in the Wrangler. So there are other engines in the catalog.

I'm sure the same old reasons will come up - that they can't properly cool the turbo motor in the Gladiator and maintain SAE tow ratings, etc with the narrow and short nose on the Gladiator or whatever.

I guess the only reason the Colorado/Canyon can be rated for the same 7700 pounds with a 2.7L turbo is a better cooling package?

Who knows.

Ad nauseum. lol.

I don’t even care about the power, just give us an engine that can make it past 150k miles. The 4.0 was a legend and the 3.7 did ok. The 3.6 is a metallurgical nightmare.

Because like all massive corporations, most of the decision making is centered around the accounting department. The days of a manufacturer "doing something" for the joy of the automotive world are few and far between. Even halo cars are disappearing. The first Ford GT was produced in 05-06, and they made a little over 4000 units. The second Ford GT was produced from 2017-2022 at roughly 1 per day (standard work week), totaling 1350 (targeted).

And I said it long ago - Alfa has a 500hp V6TT. How much fun would that be dropped in a JT? It could be detuned even, and at a 425-450hp range, everyone would be happy. The Alfa engine has a Stage 1 tune out there that bumps it to 540hp/600tq. Hnggg. The choice not to bring this engine over probably was cost - too expensive to install, too costly to support, too expensive to produce in quantity for Jeep.

I would not be surprised if there's a "lock" on the JT - there won't be any significant development until it breaks a certain volume number. Why spend money on something that will take 4-5 years or more to recoup the costs? Or not at all if it doesn't make enough in sales and gets the axe?

From the get-go, the mandate for the JT has been from the rear seat forward it basically has to be identical to the Wrangler. Whether or not that was a right decision is irrelevant - that's what they're working with. If they want to change, it's going to take time to change, it won't happen overnight.

Then Stellantis had the crazy CEO who stalled the company by forcing it down the EV path. Companies this size require a lot of time to change direction.

While national CAFE standards enforcement may have subsided, California still is the biggest car market in the US, and probably the largest rental market, and has their own way of doing things. Going about business pretending that CAFE won't come back in a couple years is woefully ignorant.

The aftermarket is fulfilling the need, at a price point that's probably not far off of what a factory solution would be (sadly). As much as we'd wish a slightly more powerful engine would be a $2500 option - or $8k at the most - the reality is the manufacturers aren't going to let that demand get by without extracting all the money it can.

Yes, my '99 TJ with the 4.0 has never given me any problems at all, burns no oil, is a beast (135k miles). Maybe I can switch that engine to my JTR when the time comes and I hear the tick-tick melody under the hood. But who knows.

Or they could just drop a platform proven engine like the 5.7 or 6.4 as a option… yet here we are stuck with this pos 3.6.

Do we need to get to 345 pages or 392 to lift the curse?
Of those two choices, I'd rather have the 345.
But I still prefer my 182.

The only way I would do a Hemi is with no MDS or VVT. I want a simple and reliable V8.
