Herbal Gear Oil???

I did a quick search, didn't find anything on this, and I want to know if it's just me...

Finally got around to swapping out the gear oil in my differentials (still need to take care of the front diff) in my '23 Rubicon. I was quite surprised when the gear oil that came out of the pumpkin did NOT smell like gear oil. It smelled almost herbal. I've heard rumors of "scented gear oil" before, never seen it in the wild, and for the stock Mopar oil to smell... pleasant caught me off guard.

Was I hallucinating? At least the replacement oil had the usual foul aroma I love.

AC Delco has been making scented gear oil for a minute now, wouldn't be surprised if mopar did too.

Patchouli scent.

It means I don’t change lubes to smell it, I add friction modifiers and trade the vehicles in when I think its time.

Vehicles are transportation cost to me not assets

I have a 2021 and changed my front and rear at 50k. It smelled stanky like its post too.

Gear oil should also be inside your diffs, but somehow I sometimes get it in my hair.

As much as I tried to ease the cover off, it went at once and I wore plenty of it.

Someone taught me the trick to leave the top bolt half threaded so I would quit dropping the cover at the most unexpected time.
