Yea I figured as much, seems every new vehicle ticks now days.
Many new vehicles now have direct injection with high pressure injection pumps - and those pumps are very loud / make a pronounced ticking usually.

My Camaro ticks now and then because it has crappy GM lifters šŸ˜‚

Gladiator nice and quiet though. I was walking out to it this morning and was wondering if the remote start worked cause it was suspiciously quiet.

I finally got my truck back dealer had it for 2 weeks rebuilding the entire top end of the motor , cams , lifters all of it
I found it strange they didn’t pull an oil sample or change the oil but that’s on them as it’s still under warranty
Picked it up and drove it 128 miles and seems to run great šŸ‘šŸ¼ so far
Warranty or not, would be prudent to just get the oil and filter changed if it was me.

I'm approaching my fifth anniversary
and 30,000 mile service.
There is some ticking.

Is it a battle
to get it covered under warranty?
Or do most dealerships embrace it?

From what I have seen, if you are under warranty, it should be no issue.

The dealer I work with is great about handling anything under warranty, and has even handles things just after the warranty expires.

Cams are on backorder, but they don't take long to get. Maybe a week or so.

The first dealer I went to did not change the oil either which I found crazy. I ended going to another dealer for further repairs including another cam. This dealer changed the oil and said they flushed it. After 2500 miles, I checked the oil filter and there was quite a bit of metal in the filter. Based on the glitter in the filter, I took it back and asked if this was normal. They ended up dropping the pan and cleaning the metal out of the pan. They also pulled some bearing caps to make sure there was no scoring on the crank. Because of damage to the oil pump from the metal in the system, the oil pump was also replaced. The service manager tried to get Jeep to replace the engine but the factory rep said no. I just got it back this past weekend and feel a lot better that this was done.

What would be the dealer incentive
to not want to do warranty work?
Incentive would be the warranty labor rate reimbursement they get from FCA sucks and does not cover actuals for the most part.

I know that is not your problem but they make it your problem by trying to skirt the work.

Well, I just got El Nacho Libre back.

They checked it out, did not find anything
but did some service bulletin work
and did not charge me anything.

I was so relieved I promptly bought
a dozen Dos Equis longnecks
for the service writer to share.

That doesn“t sound right. My dealer jumps on warranty repairs with no fuss. They have an obligation to honor the warranty.

Could it be that the dealer wants the failure to progress to the point of replacing all the cams/lifters and maybe even the engine? To generate more work or a better margin? I don“t know, but I“d go around them to Jeep if they are blowing it off.

That“s good news! These valve trains can be noisy even when fine. Idler pulleys can also make some noise.

Glad to hear it“s ok.

It’s correct, but the majority of dealerships do the right thing. There are a lot of bad dealerships out there though.

It happens, not all of them but more than a few dealerships will skirt large job warranty work as much as they can.
