Including 2025 Gladiator. I see the new front lower frame skid bars aren’t there yet. Still gets a good rating!

Interesting how the first two had the lap belt ride up off the passenger’s pelvis and into the soft abdominal tissue, bet that’s the main reason they got a low score

So a Gladiator is as safe as a Tundra? Time for a roll over test.

And test with the doors off. Also what happened to the side impact test? Or do they not care about being t-boned anymore?

Off center? Looks like it.

It would stand to reason a side impact with and without doors would be dramatically different but the reality is the overwhelming majority of crashes are off center like these tests.

I suspect part of the reason the JT does well is the added strength and rigidity of the roll cage.

The Tundra and all the other trucks have roll cages, they are just integrated into the roof structure. It looks like the solid axle up front helps a lot by distributing some of the impact to the passenger side of the frame and back along the driver's side frame rail; independent suspension would just pull the CV axle out of the diff as the driver's wheel crushes backwards along with the upper and lower control arms.

Clarification: a heavier/thicker steel tube cage than the cages integrated into the body as in the other trucks. I'd wager if you roll them all over on their roof, the Jeeps deflect the least.

Everything else 100%.

I won’t forget my 71’ Bronco’s manual steering and drum brakes along with lap seat belts. A truly live free or die experience. Loved it though!

Height and body on frame architecture may be factors. In a sedan the level of impact in a side collision is about mid door height. In that case the door must be very rigid to transfer force to the door frame and unibody structure. A high ground clearance truck takes that impact at the level of the bottom door sill which sits right on top of the frame, transferring the load at foot level. In a sedan the occupants sit right in the path.

Doors help in other ways besides strength: they guard against penetration and ejection, add rigidity, provide support to side and curtain airbags. Without doors you might be impaled by one of those fancy chrome plastic grills or engine hood. They also serve as a guard in rollover accidents preventing intrusions.

Retired. Finally !!
Okay, gotta ask....why is there the constant comparison of Jeep against Toyota ?

Is this just another variation of the ongoing Ford vs Chevy battle ?

You know both "battles" are silly as hell, right ? More or less an adult version of "My Dad can beat up your Dad".

I had a somewhat similar experience with my motorcycle. I ride a Ural GearUp, a Russian military version with sidecar. While riding one day, my wife lost her sunglasses. We pulled into a Harley dealer and parked among a bunch of Harleys. When we came out, everyone MOVED their bikes away from ours. My wife, never one to bite her tongue, yells loudly to the "badasses" hanging about, "Are you serious ?!?! You MOVED your bikes because we aren't Harley ?? You DO realize NONE of you are bad ass bikers, I bet most of you are lawyers and dentists and spend Mon thru Fri polishing your bikes to sit here on Saturday in your brand-new Harley leathers and suck down Starbucks. What a bunch of wannabe's !! At least we RIDE !!".

Another time at a gas station I had a few lookie-loo's coming up to look at my rig. Happens all the time; sidecar rigs are not that common. One in full camo with a DP-28 replica machine gun mounted on the sidecar, even more rare. A fully dressed and chromed out Honda Goldwing pulls in, stereo blasting. No one pays him any mind, just a quick glance. He walks up, takes off his helmet and says loud enough for all to hear, "I would NEVER ride a commie bike." and makes a fart face. I calmly say, "Then don't buy one. But you'd rather ride a Japanese bike, made in a country that surprise attacked Pearl Harbor and killed thousands of Americans while they slept ? Russia never attacked us. And they haven't been communist for a LONG time, genius.". The people around us muttered "damn", "schooled", etc. The Honda rider flipped me off and left, never even got gas.

I don't think I'll ever understand the whole "mine is better than yours" stance.

My stance is, "If you don't like it, don't buy it. Then shaddup about it.".

@Mud Pie

Yup. Pretty much a variation on the age-old rivalry, just different players. 60 years ago (!!) when they were actually involved in motorsports duking it out a quarter mile at a time, on actual beaches and in acid-dipped pony cars, it mattered to people who had motor oil in their veins and enough time to to give a damn.

Toyota does some things incredibly well. Jeep does some things incredibly well. They also do some things incredibly bad (overly complicated hybrid systems and death wobble respectively).

Harley RUBs are the worst of the worst- buying an ancient aircooled furnace on wheels and throwing a cut on does not make you Peter Fonda or Dennis Hopper.

And anyone who rides a Ural in the US deserves respect. I imagine just getting parts is a challenge.

We have two Jeeps, but my favorite vehicle of all time is the FJ80 series Land Cruiser. I don't hate on Toyota, but do poke fun at the Toyota Guys who think the company descended from heaven on a winged unicorn that shoots rainbows out its ass (especially the Tacoma guys for some reason).
