Remember Bell Telephone? All the phone trucks were that green color because the govt paid to have them available in a national emergency, paid to paint them with surplus green paint, govt green paint, must have been 60 thousand of them. Maybe that's what's up.

GSA buys govt vehicles under invoice price. Many agencies order from a dealer in their area. GSA pays and then they are delivered to fleet. This is not a profitable move to delay delivery of their hottest vehicle. Additionally the amount needed to purchase 60k trucks in 4 months would require an appropriations bill to be passed by Congress to enhance GSAs budget.
Maybe GSA has a tread lightly membership and obtained 60,000 FCA control numbers?

Well if this is true then they all ought to be base Sport models with rag tops and zero options. I don’t feel like paying for government employees driving trucks loaded up with all the bells and whistles options. Hate seeing any government car with a sunroof on it that I am helping to pay for. Tax dollars not at work.
I could see military wanting the capabilities of this, but if joe blow regular government guy is driving on pavement 95% of the time, they should buy a barebones colorado for cheap. I don't need to fund this.

And I in particular would be highly ticked off if Uncle Sam gets one single Gladiator before any and all of us in this forum get ours delivered to us first. Get in line Uncle Sam, take a number just like everyone else.
if FCA owes Uncle Sam still for the bailout, wouldn't they want the public to spend all their money first to FCA so they can pay them back faster?

I could see them down sizing to mid-size due to Eco Friendly stances within the gov. Area 51 and boarder patrol both have F150 Raptors so I don't see Rubicon JTs being much of a stretch.
but how many Area 51 and boarder patrol trucks could there really be?
us mexico boarder is 1954 miles, that's 10,317,120 feet

If they bought 10,000 just for boarder patrol, that would be 1 every 1,031 feet. Could almost build a wall of gladiators, LMAO, need to tweet trump, new idea.

There’s also the longest in defended border between US-Canada. And many other government vehicles needed for different things. Military etc. 60,000 doesn’t seem far fetched if it is spread out over some time. How many Humvees did the US government have?

no idea. I would just be surprised that they place an order like 60k units without them even being out yet. I guess the humvee wasn't out yet before they ordered those, did they?

Maybe Jeep has been working with the govt. for a while now?

Who knows.

Yeah I’m sure they’ve done showings of the capabilities with the Government. I know I saw a video from a few years back of Chevrolet showing the US military their Hydrogen powered ZR2 and trying to sell them on that. So it seems they were looking into pickup trucks.

FYI the US government has more than 100,000 Humvees in its fleet with around 250,000 used world wide. The base price was 70,000 and once loaded with armour they pushed between 160,000-220,000 each. Needless to say it is very likely the old Humvees could be getting phased out and replaced by these.

This government purchase RUMOR just isn’t going to happen. When the military needs a new specialized vehicle, there are multiple platforms tested and evaluated before the bloated contract even is awarded. When it’s not a specialized vehicle, there are bids, based on a set of vehicle specs. Without prices, there can be no bids. The Gladiator doesn’t even make sense for most government needs.

none. I just build them
Sorry for the delay but I didn't want to post anything until I talked to someone that knew what they were talking about. Yes they government has ordered 7,000 JT's, not 60k. That's all I know right now.

That’s more realistic. Again, would be over a contractual timeline so not all 7K would be delivered immediately.

Someone needs to edit the title of, or delete this thread entirely. It now serves no purpose other than to confuse people when the (potential) truth gets buried on page 6...
