I've been following you on JL Forums for a while now, you're a great resource to have!

I LOVE how you were literally begged to come over here and keep the JT people informed, even though you wanted to keep the info on the JL site, and most of your responses have been calling you a troll, questioning your legitimacy, conspiring about your intentions, etc. If I were you, I would've bailed after the first page of Troll comments and said F-it. Good for you to put up with it and continuing to try to help!
It's not that we wouldn't LOVE some inside info, it's just that the first recognized post was GROSSLY inaccurate. I am still skeptical of the 7,000 blind order. That's just generally not how the gubment works. I've worked for the gubment, and it just generally isn't that easy to purchase such a large quantity of something that doesn't exist yet. Maybe, we will see...

This government purchase RUMOR just isn’t going to happen. When the military needs a new specialized vehicle, there are multiple platforms tested and evaluated before the bloated contract even is awarded. When it’s not a specialized vehicle, there are bids, based on a set of vehicle specs. Without prices, there can be no bids. The Gladiator doesn’t even make sense for most government needs.
Who said anything about military? "The Government" buys a lot more cars and pickups for non-military use than they do for military use...

Update 3/14/19: Sorry for the delay but I didn't want to post anything until I talked to someone that knew what they were talking about. Yes they government has ordered 7,000 JT's, not 60k. That's all I know right now.

Before i explain let me introduce myself. I work at the Toledo plant building the JL's. I normally post on the JL forums and give updates and answer questions when I can. most of you know the plant will also start building the JT very soon. Well a recent rumor and one that has supposedly been confirmed but hasn't been released yet is that the Government has ordered 60k JT's that will offset domestic orders until it's fulfilled. I will keep everyone updated on this if it's true
Wow thats a big difference. 7K is still a nice order for Jeep though from the Gov

"Government" doesn't necessarily mean military. The Forest Service uses trucks exclusively. There are countless federal agencies that do. And they order trucks annually, regardless of whether a Gladiator exists or not. So IF they did order 7,000 Gladiators, it's not like they "wasted money" because they'd have ordered something else otherwise.

Heck, even here in my state we order trucks for our fleet every year. Everything from Jeeps to full size diesel trucks. You'd be surprised how fast our guys can put 100,000 miles on a truck.

Maybe the government is the reason we are getting a Gladiator in the first place? Who knows what goes on behind the scenes? Big business along with big money can just about make whatever they want happen. Its sad but true! I would love to believe that Jeep built this for us" The Enthusiast " but who knows. We have been asking for this truck for a long time, they finally build it, are taking forever to release it, all of a sudden the government has a order for thousands of em and they get theirs first? WTF
Wouldn't that be like Socialism?
FCA paid back their loan YEARS ago. Pretty sure that was within the first 24 months of the Fiat purchase. GM still owes, As far as I know. Ford is probably still paying back the private mortgages they took out before the bailout and did not have to pay back the government grants they received, I believe, because they were “green money”....used for updating factories to environmentally friendly standards
My bad. Glad FCA is out from under their thumb then.

Sorry, was just taking a break from all the Plywood talk. I'm glad(iator) the OP stuck with us. I'd say we're a pretty fun bunch.

The government had the vehicle program CUCV. They were military vehicles with the purpose of light duty, non tactical and combat purposes (basically a vehicle for the base). They were based an civillian Chevys andand a 6.2 l diesel that had better fuel economy than a humvee. Over a period of the first 3 years they bought 70,000 of them. Ever since the program ended in the early 2000s it seems that military just uses plain old civillian trucks.
It could be possible they are starting a similar program with jeep?
Here are some CUCV pics:

I was in the Army from 1992-1996 and as we all know the CUCV was a colossal failure. I even owned one for a couple years. I drove it home from Las Vegas to TN in the summer of 2011, it was 111 in OK City and I almost died. I kept it until the fall of 2015 when I went back to school. The best upgrade anyone can do for a CUCV is to add the 700r4 overdrive and then a turbo. The best part of owning the truck is almost everyone I talked to would ask “what do you do with it” and I had the perfect answer, “whatever I want to.”

I bought a jk when those were just coming out with the pentastar and there was a similar rumor of a government order pushing back customer orders floating around the internet.

Someone needs to edit the title of, or delete this thread entirely. It now serves no purpose other than to confuse people when the (potential) truth gets buried on page 6...
But we would never have any threads at all if this were made so

These guys owe us a fair priced vehicle for that too. What? It's okay because they paid it back?!? Not even close. Moms could not feed their baby's in America cause of these irresponsible people, and I will not let them forget it. Yes, you, reading this, if you got bailed out it's had a concurrent effect on real Americans. You should spend a part of every day of the rest of your life repaying with kindnesses of the day you almost lost your job but got bailed out instead while your fellow citizens got foreclosed, fired, and forgotten. Man this pisses me off. Irresponsible children running major corporations. Paid it back. My ass. Those vile miscreants fucked up whole towns, and never apologized. Evil vastards. Gutless. Give me JT so I can stop being pissed at you imbeciles. I watched whole Western towns suffer and paid your bailouts. And you say thanks how?!? Intentionally high price. I am sorry. End of rant. Just don't ever tell me paid it back. They haven't paid a tenth of the damage they did. And they have not said sorry. Mom's in America not being able to feed their babies. Remembered.

Tbh if they didn’t get bailed out there would be a hell of a lot more people without jobs. The auto industry is huge in North America, if the government doesn’t push to keep it a float in hard times than you can count on a massive ripple effect of people out of work. It’s not just the direct employees of those companies, it’s the hundreds of thousands that work for companies supplying parts, transporting cars, working on many other outside jobs that have a direct impact if these companies go belly up.

There is a big picture.

Supported the bailout. Paid my share of it. Won't forget. Don't give me big picture.

If your job got saved then, you ought to help someone less fortunate everyday the rest of your life, especially if you are any kind of management. Some folks didn't get bailed. You did. You aren't lucky. You aren't smart. All that happened is that you Owe.

See, if living in a Jeep is the thing because you lost your house, then these adds below look different. I knew people living in Jeep's because they lost everything else, and, no bailout. Auto people, bank people, all of you. Don't forget.
