So long story short as I already typed a tantalizing negative review on google...

This salesman texted me to tell me they had the best deals ever ending tonight. I asked about the Gladiator. He told me prices but to come in because there was a bunch of sales that could lower the price. I told him I was going to pass as I knew he could not beat the 5-7% below of states were doing but that I knew someone who may be willing to pay that much. I asked how much they were discounting it as their competitor has already offered $2.5K below to said individual. This guy comes back to me saying they are selling at MSRP and that no one is selling lower.. :::facepalm::: I guess "sale" is not charging a bs market adjustment...

If you left a negative online review over that interaction, that is pretty petty. It is one thing if you actually were a customer sitting in their dealership and they shifted gears after the fact to change a deal, but you never got past the initial inquiry exchange and never would be customer of theirs to begin with.

Normally I would have agreed. I left out the full context of the text which might have explained my frustration better. it was two paragraphs worth of, COME IN COME IN, COME IN. HURRY. WE WILL BEAT ANY PRICE. SALES, REBATES etc. If I wasn't wary, and took him for his word, I would have drove a distance just to find MSRP prices. Another reason I got so frustrated with it all was that I offered to pass his info on thinking he was actually offering something other than MSRP based messages. In the end he tells me he is selling MSRP and that NO ONE is selling lower. As if my earlier text about another dealership doing 2.5k below was a lie..

Basically it was a bait and switch tactic except i didn't take the bait. That doesn't change what they tried though. And for that..and basically saying I lied...I think it warrants a bad review.

Adams Jeep in Aberdeen, MD & Adams Jeep in Annapolis, MD both doing 5k over msrp and don't believe anyone is doing less. Nice people, but really terrible pricing.
Have you checked at Jones up the road in Bel Air they have moved quite a few so far? They four on the lot right now as best I can tell they have sold 5.

Yeah so pretty much everyone I know has told me to avoid Jones like the plague. I tried a long time ago with their Nissan dealership with my old rogue and they're con artists if ive ever met one. When I transferred over to md after moving here and I got the inspection there they told me I needed almost 1200 in repairs. I got a 2nd opinion and it was more like 40 for new wipers. Btw Jones still charged me over 100 dollars just to do the inspection. I really don't care for them and I heard their other brand dealerships are just the same.

I asked the sale manager today at Tim Short in Morehead KY about the rubicon they have had sitting for a month. Said msrp or nothing. I told him it would be a hard sale and he replied as he walked off “Good I hope it sits”

With that attitude I don’t think he will be there much longer.

The same one I offered $55k on (they wanting $64k+ or $3 over MSRP.) still sitting on their lot one month later. I even went back and offered a 2nd time with a higher offer just under MSRP on another Gladiator with less options. Answer was “can’t do it”. They now have 5 Gladiators just sitting. I thought the idea was to sell vehicles, move volume and make a profit versus being completely overloaded with inventory. These dealerships are all so completely full of inventory there isn’t even a place to park when you go look. New vehicles are parked 3/4 deep, expanding beyond their property lines or alternate lots across the street. With major declining FCA sales compared to last year outside of the new Ram, they better stop pissing off their loyal customers and start making the deal fair on both sides. Maybe the new Ford Bronco coming out next year will stop this nonsense.

I’m a small business owner and a strong believer in buying local when ever possible.

BUT when you’re basically buying a commodity that can be spec’d exactly the way you want it some dealers fail to realize that they are basically paper clerks and that’s all..

Just buy from a dealer that’s willing to sell at a good price and avoid the drama...They will eventually learn or go out of business....

Made contact or visited each of these dealers and all want more than MSRP for in stock Gladiators and won't go less than MSRP for ordered units.

Well, I've looked at Gladiators for 2-3 years waiting on their arrival. Waiting to trade in my old 2010 Ram Laramie1500 and being patience saying that is what I am going to buy next. Two weeks ago I test drove my first Gladiator and loved it, but felt it was a little small being use to the Ram 1500 driving them for over 20 years. I can get over the size thing. After test driving the exact Gladiator I wanted with all the options, color, etc., I sat down with Banks Crossing CDJ in Commerce, GA and tried to talk fair numbers. First off, they low balled me on my KBB trade by $3k and then tagged an additional "reflective marketing for the area" of $3k on top of the full price MSRP. I offered $55k and $10K for my truck trade-in for the Gladiator and they wouldn't even discuss it, saying the Gladiator will sell to another customer for their price by they end of the day. Obviously this is complete price gouging upping the cost to $64k+ ($3k over MSRP) and leaving a bad taste to a point where got up and left the dealership. I will never return to Banks Crossing CDJ as a customer again. Oh and by the way, that same Gladiator I made an offer on is still sitting on their lot 2 weeks later. It could have been in my garage and they would have made a nice profit off my fair offer.

A few days later, I went to another dealership to try again on another Gladiator that didn't have exactly what I wanted in options, but close. They didn't try to gouge up the price over MSRP, but would not come off the full MSRP price and offered $4K below the KKB trade in price on my truck trade. Then I starting looking at the newly redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 Limited fully loaded with every bell and whistle they come with for MSRP of $71k. Obviously not going to pay $71k for a truck. But after test driving and some back and forth with dealer incentives and trade of my truck, we settled on $51k. I felt like I did pretty well at $20k below MSRP after the trade of my old truck for brand new state of the art technology vehicle. Even though the new Ram Limited is just absolutely beautiful, I still find myself wishing the Gladiator was in my garage versus another Ram. I will still get a Gladiator when all of this new truck-itis is over and the price comes down a little more reasonable without all the hype. Maybe that will be sooner than later as I have been watching what is on the dealer lots with current Gladiator inventory. I don't see these Gladiators just flying off the lots as soon as they arrive and most seem to be sitting. Probably customers like me with the same disappointment of gouging to a point of feeling ripped off. I still want a Gladiator and will get one eventually, but at the same time have to feel like I bought something at a fair price.

Until then? Yeah, I'm the guy that just bought the fully loaded new "full sized truck for (better than) the same price".
Do I feel good about it? Not really, probably should have just gotten the new Gladiator instead and be happier in the end.

Oh well, there is always next time...

Update Guys: I “caved in” and traded the new Ram for a fully loaded Rubicon Gladiator yesterday. The fever really never went away and I guess I just wanted the Gladiator too much, so bought it with a fair trade-in on the Ram 1500 and decent enough price I could live with from Ed Murdock Superstore in Lavonia, GA. I can’t say enough nice things about Johnny Murdock and the super friendly staff there. They let me drive the Gladiator unattended and treated me like a first class customer. Anyway, I couldn’t be happier and haven’t thought twice about it since doing the deal. Moving on to the mod phase now. See pictures below and posing next to the wife’s 75th Anniversary JK and also next to my brothers J-10. Cool picture with the old and new!
