Yeah I dunno what's going on because I know I started and drove way without door or belt on like 5 times yesterday cutting up a tree. Then last night Gladys freaked out.

Maybe cuz it was nighttime, or maybe cuz she knew I had a few beers beforehand?

I was just pulling the truck back into the driveway, jeez!

Auto Park does not engage with the seatbelt off but doors on and closed. i have yet to remove my doors to test doorless and no seatbelt but I suspect they are tied in when doors are off.

That's what I'm saying, doors off and no seatbelt during day worked just fine. No doors no seatbelt at night and it auto parked.

I'm just chalking this up to every other woman in my life. Does what she wants when she wants at random and I'm forced to deal with the consequences. Lmfao.

Happened twice yesterday, and almost caused Gladys to miss meeting @pilotpat in TITLETOWN!, lol


I hopped in, put foot on brake, press start button like always. Shifted to R and nothing happened. Got a message on the dash that said something like, "Auto park engaged, shit to P then select gear." So I shifted to P, went back to R, SAME MESSAGE.

Tried all sorts of stuff like going to N, then D or N then R. For like 5 minutes it wouldn't work.

Unfortunately i tried so many things I don't know what ended up shaking things loose. I think I shut her off, opened door, closed door, WITHOUT FOOT ON BRAKE, pressed start button twice, then a third time to OFF.

Then foot back on brake, press start, went to R, it she decided to comply. Dumb me forgot to video tape things for the forum or @JeepCares.

I asked @pilotpat about this and he said something similar has happened to him. Anybody else? Anybody know how to fix it either temporarily or permanently?

I have had this happen twice today- I think you are on track when you mentioned opening and closing your drivers door.
My door wasn’t fully closed- and I “think” that is what may have caused it.

Next time it happens, I will open and close my drivers door before trying anything else

I have had this twice this weekend. First time I tried remote start to let the AC cool it off. Put foot on break and went to back up. Jeep wouldn’t move. Said auto park engaged put in Park then select gear. Nothing, said I was not in Park. Tried again nothing. I turned it off hit brake and tried again. Tried it several times nothing. Finally got out of Jeep and can back and tried it again and I was able to drive. The yesterday I stopped at a truck stop to clean my windshield and left the motor running. Got back in and it was in auto park and wasn’t moving. I finally turned it off opened and closed the door and I could drive away. Seems the door wasn’t closed tight enough the first time. Seems I have to slam the door closed to cut out auto park. Stiff new doors maybe.

Auto park and auto start stop are both completely retarded and annoying. I can’t wait for my programmer to get here. I think it’s BS that cars with these features to protect idiots from themselves, require a purchase of a 3rd party programmer to shut this crap off instead of a menu item somewhere in the settings. So there is a condition where the doors are off and the system is expecting to see pressure in the drivers seat, probably even when the seat belt is latched. So say you lift your butt off the seat because your grabbing your phone out of your pocket, you have your seat belt on doors are off. I'd bet it will put you into autopark.

I don't think auto park engages over 10 mph.

Thank the EPA in part for the auto stop/start - CAFE, Corporate Average Fuel Economy - they gain and some cities that have laws about having to shut off if you are at a light more than xx minutes - blame them. I think Minneapolis has a law like that? Someone does, it was in the news a while back.
As far as auto park - the lack of a tactile shifter - the BS electronic bump to shift thing that returns to a neutral position, the dumbest thing ever. I want to FEEL the shift, I want that mechanical feel and SEE that the lever is ahead or back, etc. I want that shifter to be an extension of me, I want the whole vehicle to be an extension of me. When they went to that shifter that you merely had to bump into park and then it came right back to a center position - you never knew what gear you were in unless you looked. That's dumb. My cars all have a shifter I can TELL - when I have to squeeze a lever or button, or push down on a button (my 70) and push the shifter all the way forward until it stops and then it LOCKS there, I KNOW it's in park. I hated my wife's previous Grand Cherokee and the stupid electronic shifter with no tactile indication of what you were in unless you looked. That's what killed Chekhov. You couldn't tell. Then later they went back to a shifter that held a position, you knew by feel what gear you were in.
If you were used to an old-school shifter and ended up with one of those Jeeps or other vehicles with the purely electronic shifter with no feel, that moved back to position, that was killer. So blame the auto companies for that. Maybe Gen X or millennials like the new drive by electronic shifting and steering - give me a mechanical connection even if it controls a switch somewhere. I want to SEE where my shift lever is and feel it CLICK and lock into place.

i miss the shift rod from my 88-2001 civics i've owned. Great feel, cable shift less, electronic shift, none.

I know this thread is 6 months old, but had to post.
First, thanks for everyone that posted their descriptions here.

I am a new Jeep owner, just purchased an Overland 3 day's ago. So far I love it.
Yesterday it spend the entire day in the shop because the Auto Start/Stop system maintenance light would not go off. They had to replace the battery. (Probably because it was on the lot for a few months without being started).

This morning I back out of my driveway, put it in drive, and it doesn't move.
Hmm. First thought was WTH, did I not get it in drive? Look down, and the 'D' is flashing.
I put it in reverse. Nothing except the 'R' is flashing. Now I'm starting to freak out. Did I buy a lemon?
Put it in park, then back in drive - nothing. My neighbor is walking out of her house looking at me, and now someone is trying to drive down our street, which I am totally blocking, I put it in neutral, thinking I would push it a bit so the other truck could pass. Uh that didn't work . Get back in and put it in park, then put it in 4H and then I was able to move it back to the driveway.

Working in 4H was probably a coincidence.

Here are a few thought after reading the post, and thinking about what I did.
1. I didn't notice the auto park indicator was on. (I was in high freak mode though), and even if I did, I wouldn't have know what it was at the time.
2. After starting the Jeep, I started to back out of the driveway, but put it back in park so I could get out and wipe the condensation off the rear camera. (I can be OCD that way).
3. I got back in, but purposely decided not to put the seat belt on because I wanted to see how long it would nag at me.
4. I was likely not at a 100% complete stop when I switched from reverse to drive.
5. I have noticed previously that the door will not complete close if I don't put enough force behind it, but didn't notice the warning this morning, so don't know if that was a contributing factor or not.

I will have to pay a little more attention and see if I can get it to happen again. It seemed to take an eternity to resolve when you are blocking a street, but I will be better prepared next time it happens.

When i read your post it sounded like a lot of drive to reverse and neutral, but i think to turn off autopark, you have to put it into park, then can get it back to drive or reverse.

I tried putting it in Park also, I was probably too impatient, and didn't wait long enough the first time.
At lunch I had to go and try to reproduce it without leaving the driveway. Had to have the door open to do so.
My neighbor probably thinks I bought a POS since the 2nd day I had it I brought home a white loaner while the battery was being replaced, and then the next day I was stalled in the street. .

if I recall, my issue was because the car thought the door was open and my seatbelt wasn't connected.

If you have issues again, plug the seatbelt in, does it go away? Or open then re-shut door harder.
