Look into ultralite models.
I have a grand design. They have an entire line dedicated to light models without losing nice features.
I would never pull more than the vehicle rating. It's not comfortable or safe. Especially with your family with you
Is length a huge concern? Or just the weight and tongue weight?

Weight and tongue weight.
Length is only a concern for manuevering. (Getting boxed in at spots like gas stations) you need to be careful about having room to turn and navigate the pumps. Especially in high congestion areas.
The weight transferring hitch eliminates tongue weight concerns and adds a lot of stability to the trailer. Eliminates sway.
My trailer measures 31' from hitch to rear bumper. It's a 25' trailer. The gladiator is 20' long. So your rig is over 50 feet.
In the weight you are looking for I would think most trailers will be between 19-26 feet.
Anything longer usually get heavy.
And definitely look into camera system on the back of the trailer. Makes a huge difference in comfort and reduces stress.
I can see traffic behind me, when the trailer clears whatever I'm passing etc.

Awesome! Thank you so much for that. At this point I have a rough idea of what we are going to pick up. Seriously appreciate all the info.

Definitely looking at bunk houses since it will be my wife, my kid, and 1 kid (for now). Also may the kiddos cousins with us at some point. Sounds like I really shouldn't be looking at anything over 5000lbs then. Didn't know if the WDH and Trailer brakes would be something that would help push the weight limit up a bit.
Those items don't change what you can tow. Brake controller is required for anything over 2000 lbs. (varies by state). WDH will make towing much more stable. Get one with sway control. My Equalizer also limits side to side rocking of the trailer along with sway and WD. I have a 4200 gross weight trailer. Brochure listed dry tongue at 345 lbs. but my hitch scale showed 480 lbs. when loaded and that was with empty water and holding tanks.

See this is the kind of information that you don't get at dealerships. What is a safe tongue weight? Most of the ones I have been looking at so far are between 400-580

My trailer has 2 batteries and other options not listed as standard equipment. When I first loaded it up and filled the water tank the tongue weight was 660 lbs. I drained the tank and got 540 lbs. I then redistributed interior contents to get it down to 480. Having the tongue weight gage was well worth it.

Find the manufacturer you are happy with, then find the trailer you want.
They have different models in different parts of the country. So one you see that's sold in California is different than the same manufacturer we get on the east coast. It's very strange.
Good luck, you will love the quality family time using it.
We go out almost weekly ten months of the year.

The F-24BH is actually pretty perfect for what I am looking for. Looks like there is only 3 dealers in Colorado and only 1 in the state...and that is the EVOKE model. Might be time for me to check other states as well.
That's the model I have. The body of the trailer is only 6'6" and with a Chevy Colorado I didn't need trailer mirrors, I will with the Gladiator though.

Do read this article because the Falcons are 101" wide at the wheels. Some states have restrictions to 96" on some roads.

I towed my LJ to the trails over the weekend (320 miles towing round trip)

. I even took the JT out for a bit! On the drive down I had a headwind and got 8.2 mpg at 68 mpg. Tailwind on the way home, but haven't filled back up to check mileage. We started calling the pentastar a pentasing because it loves 4th gear and 4600 rpm climbing the hills. It works, I'm happy, did a great job all the way around.

Rubi w/4.10s, 35s, and 20 ft aluminum trailer. Speedo is not calibrated yet from tires, so it reads 5% off. 68 mph was by gps, not speedo. Truck does awesome off road also. Weight slip is from my test tow a few weeks ago, so the actual weight pictured was slightly higher due to having stuff for the trip loaded.

You have any issues with how close your WDH is to the ground? I "flipped" the axles on my enclosed trailer because of that concern when hitting back roads to get to off-road riding areas. I was only going to have 5 inches or so of ground clearance with my WDH on which looks about what you have? Just curious if that's been an actual problem for you.

Pulled this new bob-cat mower home from the dealer last week. Only about a 10 mile drive, but did well.

I doubt I'll pull much more than this with it (even though it's plenty capable). I just have a chevy 2500 Duramax for the heavy stuff.
