ROME — With Italy on an uphill course to contain the world’s second-largest outbreak of the coronavirus, Premier Giuseppe Conte has announced much stiffer fines for violators of the national lock-down restrictions.

At a Cabinet meeting Tuesday, the government set fines for violators from 400 to 3,000 euros ($440-$3,300). Initially, fines topped out at 206 euros ($227).

Italy is in its third week of lock down, under a government decree that expires on April 3. Earlier, an Italian health official, Franco Locatelli, said a decision on extending the order would be made based on how Italy’s outbreak of COVID-19 is developing. Italy’s outbreak hasn’t peaked, and thousands of new cases are being reported daily.

Gas station workers, fearing they are at risk for contagion, have announced strikes later this week. Conte says the government will try to alleviate their concerns by allowing for staggered opening hours at stations.

okay I looked up zoontic, but only found Zoonotic Diseases.

So does Zoonotic mean it started from an animal to a person?

What about if I have Covid-19 and play with my dog, then somebody else plays with my dog? Can they get it that way?

not all animal can carry it, looks like dogs are safe.

The US has 6x the population of Italy. Simply looking at number of cases is misleading. I would be more concerned that China has 4x the population of the US, yet only 50% more cases.

Of course, those bastage like Russia are not to be trusted on their counts.

My experience with data sets reported by nation's is look thrice. Never did see accurate data reported, ever! Always the caveats.. WH using the dead body count is morbid. And if everyone who passed due to seasonal flu, or auto accidents, (said respectfully), which all happened in one month the system would be similarly swamped. The more hopeful view is quickness to viable treatment. It sucks that we are already slow to treat, and that we have no viable curative treatment. So, my opinion, the problem is we need to ramp up some quick reaction teams, Nationwide, and stop debating whether we need a quick reaction team. Who was that, oh yeah, Paul Revere. We need to heed, folks.

Zoonotic means it can pass between humans and animals
