Jeep Wranglers get a bad name from Soccer moms buying them thinking they are kool finding out there nothing like there Subaru or Toyota. Wranglers ride rough, have load road noise and the soft top leaks into the cab when it’s raining, so the said problems the Soccer moms give bad reviews and comments. I’m on my forth Jeep that is a Launch Addition Gladiator and love It, love the option to remove top and doors, and would not drive anything else.

Rather than create a new post I'd like to revive this one and see how the JT's are doing nearly a year later. I'm going to be in the market for an offroader around Spring next year. I know Ford is doing things, but the JT still is very appealing to me. I'd use it to tow a camper and my kayaks. My Facebook friends list apparently is full of Jeep haters! People keep telling me I'll regret getting the JT over a JLU. But the bed and increased towing capacity seems better for me.

I regret to even tell any of you this - but I'm still driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey with 142k on it. It's a pain because I have to use a ladder to get my kayaks off the roof. I have 4 total, two 8.5ft ones inside the van and two 10ft ones on the roof. I'm 5"6 and about to hit 40, I'm tired of moving the ladder lol.

My wife has a JLUR that has only been to the dealer once for the steering damper recall. We call it “The Unicorn” because such a thing is that rare. My JTR is in the shop now for a rear locker failure and two other issues. We have a history or Jeeps and a history of issues. Other makes, not so much.

How many times I took back to the dealer for WARRANTY service/5X from '85 - 2020

Carb adjustment

AC drip hose, dripping in passenger side

Outside temp on rearview mirror giving freeze alert on 100F days X2

Drivers side rear axle broke due to internal fault in the axle

Ground wire in engine bay disconnected

Out of warranty repair: Leaking water pump at 131,000 miles.


Cumulative mileage: 329,000 mi

Don't waste your time reading Consumer Reports and other rags that have a hard on for the Jeep or listen to some poser claiming the floorboard burned his foot so it had to be amputated o the guy that sunk it on a river crossing and told everyone Jeep would not warranty the hydro locked engine nor the electrics.

I too have heard about good reliability from Jeep, except older Cherokee. I wonder how many issues are from off-roading or mistreating the machine.

Lack of ANY Preventive Maintenance. I know the Jeep community as well as anyone here, been in for over 50 years. HALF the folks could not poor piss out of a boot with the directions written on the heel. The maintenance schedule is about the same. Seen them drag one behind a wrecker with a frozen engine, why, NEVER added oil, did not know they had to...

I had a '13 JKU Sport that I put 70k miles on. The only issue that I ever had was an oil pressure sensor that went out. It cost about $380 to have replaced. Most of that was labor. It was a known issue in those engines and it happened out of warranty. I drove that thing as a daily and all over Moab and never had any issues other than that one. Changed the oil every 5k. That was it.

I think reliability between brands is relatively the same .... people are very brand loyal (myself included) and have a bad tendency to bash and spread rumor. My last couple of vehicles ... 2004 Nissan Titan ... solid truck that I had for 10 yes ... next a 2014 Nissan Frontier ... I chased warranty issues for the first 6 months and then was a solid truck ... bought the JT about 6 months ago and have yet to have a single issue with it.

All manufactures have a reputation of covering their asses first and IMO sometimes fall short of really taking care of their customers. ALL manufactures are guilty of this, which sucks given what we pay for these vehicles .... having a good dealer is key.

I have owned a few Jeeps, 74 CJ5, 80 CJ7, 2002 Wrangler, 2005 TJ (totaled) 2006 TJ, 2017 Grand Cherokee, and 2020 JT. The only problem was the 2006 TJ after a accident had problems with fog lights loosing power was traced to a pinched wire .

German cars are great......IF YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE. Love on them properly and you are rewarded with an amazing driver experience. Had a 71 bug with and 1835cc and Dual Webers. Was a hoot to drive. My 1995.5 S6 Avant was the best driving car I have ever owned, and this was in 2015. 5spd 400hp wagon that seats 7. What car guy or gal would not want that? Literally the Grocery Getter from hell.
My "one that got away" was a 1967 Porsche 912. Ex wife forbid me buying it. Even have a MK1 TT that was a first delivery situation. It's a black 225 roadster with catcher mitt leather. The biggest problem with Audi, and I can do a run down of the ones I have owned, they were rare....is finding parts. Audi stops making parts for their cars after about 20 years. My Mk1 TT is in that boat now. Lots of things are NLA and I am always looking for things. I had the sunroof go out on a 1991 Audi 200. They made the tracks from pot metal.
My buddy has a 911T here in town with 80K in mods. It's infamous with PCA in Colorado. That thing will drive daily and go to the track, kick ass and, call not take names.

I like my Jeep 4K miles in. For different reasons. Will it last like my K20 Burban? I hope so. That truck was too dumb to die. I don't care about the noise. I find mine quite nice on the highway. I do wish the stock speakers did not rattle with certain bass frequencies....I'm not talking Skrillex, but like a Jimmy Cliff song. The dash unit is better than the one in the Outback. Gas mileage for me is just below my Subie, but I think mine was just jacked up.

Worst cars I have ever owned were a 2018 Subaru Outback and my mom had 1994 Infiniti G20 (main bearings went at 60K and the engine nuked). I think mine may have been a lemon. All kinds of electrical issues. Shitty gas mileage. I was seeing 21-20 around town. NO POWER...like none. Forget passing cars in the mountains. And it really sucked in the snow. It was just mediocre. It's like the Coldplay of cars. A lot of people liked them, they sell quite well, but damn....it did nothing for me.

Probably not a popular side, but my experiences with Jeeps aren't quite as rosy as what most folks hear paint.

I've had quite a number of Jeeps over the years (I'm on vehicle #54 right now), ranging from flat fenders to CJs to YJs, XJs, TJs, ZJs and JKs. While almost all of them were very reliable, the JKs I had were far from it. A 2012 JKU had a myriad of items that kept being replaced/repaired under warranty, enough so that I never even got a chance to lift it (the thing was always at the dealer). Then I got a 2015 JK, and while it was reliable in the sense that it would start and drive anywhere, the thing was falling apart from day 1. I was furious that Jeep allowed something so terribly put together to come off the line. Both JKs had the door cylinder locks fall out; one I found, the other I had to drive from UT all the way back to FL with no door lock b/c I couldn't find it. I know lots of folks who never had issues with their JKs, but I sure do know a bunch that were fed up with them as well (luckily the JL seems to have better QC).

I know some folks harp on Porsche, but if they ever had one (or many), they'd know they are crazy reliable. Sure, they're super expensive in terms of parts (compared to the average vehicle), but they are actually quite simple to work on. I've owned several over the years, and I will likely always have one in my garage...they're just amazing vehicles.

I keep reading that the JL and JT are a new kind of build quality, and I sure hope so. While I fully intend to buy a JT, if the quality is similar to the JKs I had, it won't be staying in my garage for very long.

In my experience with rear lockers in a few of my Audis....you'd use them to get moving then disengage. I know the fastest way to a spin in those cars was to drive with the rear locker on. Take a turn with it on and you'd just slide. I'd think the Jeep would be the same. (I may be wrong and am fine with being corrected) Perhaps airing down a bit for the snow and 4H for regular driving and 4L for when it's bad?

Yea. This isn't my first JEEP, I have owned 4. I have no intention on using the lockers on dry pavement. I will be driving regularly on ice covered roads not to mention deep snow. I am a paramedic and expected to be at work regardless of weather. Has anyone used any of the tuners to engage their Rubicon lockers in high range?

As a former Porsche dealer of 15 years it was one of the most common misconceptions. I used to hear that nonsense day in and day out. Truth was that pre 99 911 and models were some of the most bullet proof cars out there. You could beat them up as daily drivers, puts tons of miles and always drove the same with little breakage and very low maintenance. This is my first Jeep so time will tell.

5 Wranglers (3 were brand new) and a 2011 Grand Cherokee. None of the wranglers have ever left me stranded or been towed, (except 72 CJ% when I ran out of cgas 2 weeks ago). Very little warranty work. 05 Unlimited did get a new t case at 20K miles but I really think the dealer was BS'ing Jeep. 11 Grand Cherokee, ghad the new Pentastar and the Heads issues that came with it. Never failed and they swapped in one new head and extended the warranty to 150K.

6 Jeeps since 1999 and never left standing and very very little warranty work.

I'd agree with you...though the 996 did have some problems. (intermediate shaft bearing)...and those ghastly headlights.
