I wonder if the very recent builds already have this change done ? Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could confirm this ?
well here’s a nice image of the old style “aluminum” steering box which looks mostly steel to me in the image. You can see the barcode with p/n as well , take a look at yours and see !

I never understood why some dealers refuse to perform service for a TSB issue? They get paid from the factory and get points from a happy customer so why fight? Do they get bounty payments from @JeepCares per rejection??

I used to live up in MO and the Jeep dealers had no issues addressing complaints or TSBs; it's what kept me in the brand. However, from the time I moved down to CFL I've had to fight for everything; even for valid TSBs. I recall I brought in my Jeep GC for a steering wheel heating issue and Gator claimed there was no problem and it 'worked as it should'. I showed them the TSB at which point they said 'oh, that. Yea we'll fix it'

I had the sterring issue on my JT until I installed the FOX 2.0 TS stabilizer which made things better, but i'll definitely bring in my JT for service somewhere to get my current defective steering system fixed.

Shame on you @JeepCares. At these price points your brand shouldn't be acting as a low cost feeder and if it's your network then fix it! The Jeep name is what everyone sees.
It's because warranty times are so low. I remember when I worked for a honda dealer and warranty time to rebuild an auto transmission was like 4 or 5 hrs. It took almost that much time to R/R the trans much less rebuild it. And the other reason could be they're assholes.

I just bought a Mojave a week ago and it tracks pretty well ... I have not owned a jeep before so I dont really know what to expect ... It is a bit sloppy but I did not consider it to be overly so ...

Last night I checked my build date and it was built in July ...

I wonder if the very recent builds already have this change done ? Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could confirm this ? I dont want to call and ask because I believe that they would likely tell me mine was not affected. I would tend to not believe them without my own research ...

Any thoughts ?
Bought my Sport S Max Tow 45 days ago and it was only on the lot for one day and it drives like hot garbage on the highway

Thanks I certainly have the AE version. This can easily be seen above the front tire in front of the coil spring.

OK so ive been dealing with the steering issues since i got the jeep and each time i have brought it up to the dealer i received the famous "its normal for a jeep to drive that way". well called my service department today (who is notorious for being a royal PIA when it comes to repairs) informed them of the TSB, and i told them i dont want to make more than 1 trip for this issue. well 1 hour later service manager called me back and stated he will order the parts and when they come in they give me a call for an apt. i was honestly expecting to have to fight more but nope easy peasy..

this must actually be a pretty big deal if they are dealing with the issue this easily. makes me wonder if this is borderline recall status, but they dont want to go that route so trying TSB first.
Recalls are safety related. Such as if it was an issue that caused the steering to completely turn away at speed and cause a wreck. Typically a death, or serious injury, is involved by the time its made a recall. Not always tho. Since we can still keep the vehicle in control-ish, it is a TSB.

A recall could still be issued, but for now it's not. The more people that complain to NHTSA the more likely this becomes a recall. If you have to wait for the new parts or the dealer denies, go to the NHTSA and open an issue.
A TSB is just a supplement to previous repair instructions.
A recall is a legal requirement to fix (often to require fixes that may have started as TSBs).

Don't call Napleton Jeep in Kissimmee. A bunch of clowns, impossible to get service department on the phone. How do you get Jeep service in Orlando, any luck? Uff, not used to this coming from Porsche where the service is solid.

I had a cop following me for 3 miles the other night because the fkn gladiator wanders from side to side. Really want to get this fixed.

The age old adage applies that “one catches flies more easily with honey than vinegar”

I suggest all the “tough guys and women” out there first try a little honey when dealing with their local service center. Nobody likes being dictated to, yelled at, pushed, and or jammed into Doing something. When WE act this way, we take away the opportunity for one one to actually feel good about doing something for their customer...

I know I hate it when someone comes at me with BOTH BARRELS to FORCE me to do something. MOST 98% of people NEED to feel good about what they do and WANT to help.

Give people a chance to do the right thing, and you WIL be surprised! The simple phrase of “I need your HELP to solve an issue“ goes a long way.

Try a little honey first and keep an open mind to understand what OTHERS have to deal with in their lives.

YOU can ALWAYS fall back to force and demand, if the 2% of the turds out there are NOT willing to help.

NOTE: I do NOT work for Jeep, or ANY automotive related service groups, but I KNOW I have had much better success in life be trying NOT to be an A-Hole, and avoiding being COMBATIVE during negotiations.

Good luck, we ALL MUST change the course our society is on, enough battling, open hostility and forceful language when it’s not required.

LMAO If I could get to the stage of actually speaking with someone at Napleton it would be nice.

This, I am afraid of this happening.
Lol, as long as you don't have alcohol in your system you're good. Just let them know that the steering is a bit wonky and that you're going to get it looked at. If you can, get your officer to write a notice (not a ticket, obviously) that you were witnessed wandering on the road as evidence for your service dept. if it does happen. That could push them over the edge if they want to argue with you.

My appointment at the dealer is for Tuesday, they said I have to go in for them to order the parts. The service manager said she was unaware of the TSB, and I sat on the phone while she looked it up. Once she found it, she also said the repair has no conditions , and quoted the TSB "If the customer describes the condition/symptom listed above, perform the Repair Procedure". So fingers crossed, this will finally be the fix. They installed my lift, can't give me crap about that, 35's, and a Terraflex Nexus 2.2 Steering stabilizer are the only other mods.

Wow I'm late to the party, but finally up to speed (read through all ten pages)

steering Gear wont be available till mid september,
Thank you @steffen707

Anybody else been told when parts are available?

a TSB is between technicians only.
Not since Al Gore invented the internet.

@JeepCares , how should people be approaching this issue?
I phoned my dealership today and asked to book an appt for service. They put me through to a booking lady not through to the service dept like they normally do. She set up the appointment for oil change and wheel rotation and ran my Vin. Said there were no recalls, so I reply "correct it's not a recall it's a TSB here's the number: 08-074-20 she booked extra time for the wheel rotation and said she would note down I had concerns about the steering. I kindly asked her to note down the TSB number too.

Does anyone's steering wheel (good or bad steering) actually ever return to 0 on its own? Mine goes vaguely straight but never actually goes straight by itself, I always have to manually zero it.
I think so (definitely yes when in neutral parking break on. I have the MT), I'll double check for you tonight.

"hot garbage", I like that description. When I first took mine in to be serviced, I described the issues as:
Wanders like a drunken sailor on the highway
They didn't find this amusing and told me nothing was wrong after driving it. I called with the TSB number and they said they'll get me in as soon as they get the parts, no other questions.

Anybody else been told when parts are available?
I was told the parts will be available the 21-Sep-2020 and to contact the service manager on 18-Sep-2020 to ensure they are available and have been ordered.

Just called my service dept, they set an appt for the update like I asked so I can try to drive it for a about a month and see if that fixes it. If not I said I want the new box during my oil change and they said no problem (I've been in before for steering issue). I asked if my Fox 2.0 ST would be a problem, he said no and they just wouldn't note it (they'd "overlook" it and pretend not to see it lol). They were full on appts for a week so I'll be there on the 28th.
