Mine has now been at the dealership for over two weeks and I am being given the run around. I called this past Monday and was told parts were in to find out on Tuesday, they weren't. They said they originally ordered the OE steering box and the order was cancelled. By then they had already ordered the correct part for another customer so I continue to wait until they can order another one on 11/11. Jeep cares basically said they can't do anything for me and the dealership is basically not responding to them. I've been told by the dealership they can only order one every 20 days....jeep cares says 14 days. What is everyone else being told?

Did they insist on keeping the vehicle while they ordered the parts? Why can’t you take it home until they get the parts in?

That's very important - more so than the color or material as has been noted - uh, some dealers put the wrong steering gear on because they jump a line on the TSB part number chart.
Be sure that if you have a black steel gear that it's the correct NUMBER for JT.
Ask Ravenron - unfortunately he has experience with that.
Same thing nearly happened to me. Mechanic put down the wrong part number fortunately my cousin is the inside parts guy at my dealership and when he saw my wife’s name on the order he knew we had a JT and not a JL. Just as a side note when I dropped the truck off to go down the P0300 road I spoke to him and when they ordered mine he could only order 1 every 2 weeks now it’s 1 a month.

Mine has not been replaced, I bought it 7/19 build date 5/19. Is the replacement aluminium as stated in the original thread on this issue? I don’t think my original box (black iron) would have the same part number as the replacement. Are the jt replacements made from both materials? I do know that each wheel base has a different part number. Thanks

If your truck was built before August 2020, it does NOT have the black steel housed steering gear unless it was REPLACED. ALL in 2019 and all until mid-August 2020 were the aluminum steering gear. Period.
Check the TSB for the part number. The JT uses only ONE number steering gear for the purposes of this TSB.
Again, if you have the black steel steering gear and your truck was built in 2019 there is no way it has the steel steering gear, it has the aluminum gear.
Check the PART NUMBER on your steering gear to be sure and report back here.

The REPLACEMENT is steel, the ORIGINAL is aluminum.
These are the part numbers for the new/replacement steering gear -

1 (AR) 68507569AA Gear, Steering - Four Door, Left Hand Drive (JL)
1 (AR) 68507571AA Gear, Steering - Two Door, Left Hand Drive (JL)
1 (AR) 68507576AA Gear, Steering - Left Hand Drive (JT)

If you actually have 68507576AA then your steering gear has already been replace and is NOT original to the truck - if built prior to August 2020

Do not go by color alone - check the PART number.

Here's an example of where this Forum and the smart folks onboard help immensely! Posts like this one gave me the knowledge and info to check my dealers work and prove they made a mistake...otherwise, I'd have never known the difference. Thanks again to S-Papa and all the contributors here!

I had to wait 2 weeks for part to come in the dealer called me and scheduled my new gear box install. I will be in the shop this Monday. I hope it really helps
Both my 2019 JL and 2020 JT went in Nov 3rd for the TSB and they told me that it's in backorder. Is 2 weeks the normal turnaround for this item??

Talked to my cousin who is the inside parts guy at my dealer yesterday and he told me Jeep is only letting the dealers order 1 a month now. I’m not sure when it changed. When they ordered mine a couple of weeks it was 1 every 2 weeks.

I want to apologize to all. I DO have the aluminum box. Don't know what I was looking at the first time. Will make copy of the tsb and take with me to dealer. Funny thing , I brought it in shortly after purchase because of the way it handled, they said they did an alignment. But I didn't believe them because nothing changed. Glad they've decided something was really wrong. Again want to apologize for being such a jerk.

Clearly, Jeep underestimated how many people were dissatisfied with the design of their JL/JT steering.

I did the same as you and said I had the right part and my build was about 2 days before the switched parts it’s good to look at the right part when others point that out :)

Took mine in for a Jeep Wave oil change yesterday and put in the online scheduler the dealership uses to evaluate my JT for the TSB. Arrived with the TSB printed out and left of the drivers seat and stated what I wanted to have checked with the Service Advisor. Even left my Synergy Track Bar and Steering brace left on for the visit. Dealership did not even blink and put the TSB parts on order and had the correct part numbers on the service invoice they handed back to me.

Anyone in Houston area, I just ordered mine from Southfork Jeep in Pearland and my lift, steering stabilizer and track bar were not an issue at all. The service tech even asked me to be sure I didn’t have a tazer that needed to be removed because they would be doing an update.

The service advisor and service manager stated it was "highly recommended" not to drive it due to creaking noises my steering is making when I start to turn in either direction.

On Friday I finally called around to some other dealerships and found one that can do the TSB tomorrow for me. The current dealership mine is at can only order one at the earliest on 11/11. If anyone is having to wait, try calling around. Another dealership may be able to help you sooner. I am just tired of waiting for over 3 weeks already without my Gladiator.
