New JT Gladiator Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

My 2020 Jeep gladiator rubicon was I thought ok too. But I brought in for oil change and service person said my Jeep Vin number was on a recall TSB for steering gearbox and 3 new computer flash’s. I had it done and it drives and runs like a whole different vehicle. It drives Fantastic. Mad a big big difference for the better.

I think this is the first time that I've heard of a service department notifying a Gladiator owner that there's a TSB. Did they actually use the word "recall"?

have been buying from the granger brothers in orange for over 30 years . They know me and my family. They has always keep my vehicles serviced and updated. The service manager Richard Potter is a friend he said it’s a TSB for better steering and I needed the three new flashes .it took two weeks to come in and one and a half days to fix.

I'm not sure what others have experienced, but I have to be in dead center in the center lane of three lanes to have a hope of not drifting off to the left or right.

That's the way ours was; and heaven help us with a sidewind. We had about a 3 inch dead-band in the centre. you could rock left/right/left/right and the vehicle wouldn't move an inch, but try and steer straight! We also had it dart left with no warning.
The new steering gear is a miracle. We talked to dealer for a full year. "It's a Jeep thing". No. It's unsafe.

Well, my parts were originally ordered on October 1st. I called the first of November and was told to expect parts the 2nd week of November. Called the dealer again on November 30th. I was told that all parts on order were cancelled and could not be reordered until the second week of December. Therefore, I am playing the waiting game. Anyone else getting the same story?

Granted, 126 pages is a long thread and a tough read but at least skim the last 5-7 pages - you'll see a plethora of folks dealing with delays in parts.

That said, it appears to depend upon where you're getting the work done (geographically) and how motivated your dealer is to assist you. Some dealers seem to drag their feet more than others.

Finally...it seems the consensus is the fix is worth the wait...get it done as it is VERY unlikely you will be sorry...

My selling dealer refused. Said that the Jeep was fine (they tested at low speed on city roads. Of course it was fine.)
I contacted @JeepCares and they referred me to FCA Jeep Canada Customer Cares. Their intervention really helped. I haven't been back to the dealer that sold the Jeep.
The new dealer (chosen with help from the rep at FCA Jeep) was excellent. The rep followed up; he expedited parts that the dealer was looking for. I had told the rep that Jeep was dangerous.

I think that was key to getting the work done. We keep hearing how long it takes to get parts. There is a waiting list at dealers. Reading the TSB every Jeep JL and JT qualifies for a replacement. The cost must be huge.

It's worth it.

Just to note, the new steering boxes are having issues as well. My 2021 has the new box and it wanders all over the road. Almost 2" of dead play in the steering.

I have a case in with the dealer and FCA. They have a couple others with the same issue. We're on a holding pattern right now.

FCA put out another manufacturer communication on October 14 that basically says, "hey, dealers, when you replace the steering gear, you must reflash the computer to get the improved feel."

Did you get the flash?

I had the notchy steering and wondering issue. I’m now on my second replacement it’s it’s awesome. I don’t know if the issue with the first one was box or was install issue. All I know is my. Second replacement box is awesome. Also I would encourage everyone to use Jeep cares. While they can’t force the dealer to do things. They are aware of these issues and will help you get what you need

Just got off the phone with a Jeep case manager regarding my steering issue. The rep told me their job was to ‘force the parts down to the dealership’ so that the issue can be addressed quickly and that parts are coming into the repair chain pretty regularly. They claimed that I should have an ETA for repairs by early next week. Thanks to @JeepCares for coordinating this for me!

I don't see how it's relevant. I have a 2021 that was built with the updated black steering box. Unless they came out with a newer version of the updated black steering box.

Right - because as of sometime on the day of August 14th, 2020, all new Gladiators built got the steering gear mentioned in the TSB.
Now if there's a NEWER version, it will have a revised number, not the exact same part number as in the TSB listed in this forum. It would have an AB instead of AA, for example........
And if that's the case, it could be seen easily by looking at the part number on the steering gear of the latest JT off the line, the latest one owned by a forum member.....
They could look at the part number and that would tell us pronto.
