I have the aux package as well. Hoping to find a good ground under the glove box.

Good to know. I’m going to grab the old volt meter and do a hunt soon.

Here's what it says in the "Exposure To Radio Frequency Energy" section of the MXT275 (15 watts) manual.

Smells like a CYA statement.

Fortunately, when the antenna is overhead, the exposure is significantly less than when it's alongside but that's still probably closer than I'd want to mount it in this case.

I am going to start my install tomorrow. I am going to mount it to the front corner of the bed where the M8x1.25 insert is. It's still too close if a passenger is in the seat in front of it but short of installing on the bumpers it's tough to meet those guidelines. I will start a thread...

If you use a handheld is it 33 inches away from you when transmitting?

One says 24, another says 33.

I'm well aware that the power levels are different.

I wouldn't sweat it. I'd say your good. If anyone thinks there is much difference from 20 inches to 35, well...

You arent broadcasting a 2 hour long radio show.

In your video, you show your extra antenna cable coiled around the antenna. I'm surprised it works very well Doing that is a big no no. The extra cable should be looped in a long run away from the antenna.

I have both a CB (I know, pretty obsolete) and GMRS mounted in the cab, This video shows how I did the GMRS and antenna, I do have a HH HAM radio as well.
What mount did you use to mount the base up there? Do you think the MTX 575 is likely to fit (I think it is 1.5-2" longer (but not sure).

I tried to fit the MXT115 and it was to big. I have a handheld I can take that has the GMRS repeaters in it, if I need. I find the MXT100 and 105 completely sufficient for a group going down the trail together and for around the base camp, up to 5 miles.

A handheld isn't pushing 15 watts. An 8 watt handheld transmitting on UHF frequencies is likely over the SAR limits, a 15 watt handheld might cook your brain.

(researching GMRS antenna mount ideas sorry I dug up an old thread!)

Its all good. My radio is still mounted the same way, 5 years running. Works excellent, always has, and I'm picky, being a Ham guy.
