Bed Rack and Roof Top Tents

I hear ya did the same...it is a reduced vision from the top of rear window. You still can see what’s directly behind you maybe 2 car lengths back.

I really didn’t want the top heaviness to weigh in on the drive ability...pun intended

the added weight over the rear is very welcomed, she is so planted now driving down the highway.

Going back and forth between the full and half rack. I like that the half rack doesn’t change the height profile of the vehicle but am concerned about reduced vision out the back window, not that there’s much to begin with. Do you find the half rack to be an issue in that regards?

As a contrast...and not to make the decision worse for you...I have a full rack with a RTT.

I selected full rack because it puts the bottom of the tent right at head level enough to stand up in an annex.

Also more room in the bed.

But yes it’s slightly more top heavy when driving.

Valid point on the annex. I see how yours is, mine is a bit different. My annex is set up where my staircase is in the annex and have no ceiling i.e. bottom of tent floor is not my ceiling in the annex. Mine is all the way up, essentially the top of the tent.

Guess it comes down to the RTT setup and how the annex works with your overall setup.

Seems like the Rebel rack is pretty popular. I see several members with it. I got an amazing deal on black friday for my rack. I bought an iKamper roof top tent couple weeks ago and arrived this week. I installed it yesterday at my buddies house. Here are some pictures...

I found the best looking rack/roof combo system from a company called uptop overland. They‘ve mainly been Toyota but have started branching out. They just made a rack and roof rack for the Gladiator. It’s a thing of beauty! The only problem it’s expensive! The rack itself is fairly priced but to get the matching rack and front your spending at least 3500 upwards to 5000! If anyone has deep pockets here you go.

I'll chime in as my setup starts getting more dialed in... Rebel Off Road full rack with Alucab Gen 3 tent and Shadow Awning. Got creative with the Rebel Off Road stand off brackets to mount my MaxTrax

Did you need the stand off bracket to install the Rotopax? I have their half rack and I was having trouble mounting the rotopax bracket onto the rack. None of the holes line up properly. Do you have any close up pictures of the Rotopax bracket bolted up to the rack?

Hey there,
No standoff brackets needed, in fact there's no need to use any of the RotoPax plate brackets... simply attach the "bowtie" piece directly to any slot in the side plates you'd like with the two 1/2" bolts
