Instead of a ceramic or graphene coating, I wrapped my JTM in tinfoil to thwart hackers.

I used the Reynold's "Easy Release" style to speed cleanup. You'll need four 25' rolls to isolate"the signal".

In all honesty it's a principles thing for me. It's not about will I get hacked. It's about should I be in control of the balance my own vehicle strikes between security and convenience. There goes my libertarianism again...

We all have to weigh the risk in anything we do. Due to a lack of evidence showing otherwise, I believe that Jeep has implemented adequate security to allow me to safely take advantage of the convenience provided by the remote features. I have been taking advantage of them on a regular basis for over eighteen months. The only negative is that they occasionally do not work as a result of issues with the cellular network.

I think that's fair and you ought to consider yourself lucky that Jeep's default security/convenience configuration overlaps perfectly with what you consider ideal. Personally (and philosophically) I'd like this choice to be the owner's.

You are NEVER in CONTROL...Control is an illusion. If you want don't want someone hacking your vehicle, buy a 79' Ford pinto and worry about being rear-ended.

All of you have made very intelligent statements and have spoken quite eloquently. Other's have been quite funny, and I enjoyed reading all of your posts.

However, There are much more important things we should be concerning our great minds with, such as: when are they going to put the 4:1 Rock Trac in the diesel? Will Jeep make the 4Xe Gladiator? Will it be a Rubicon? and When in the hell is that smell? Oh Crap...my toast! I gotta go!!!

In all seriousness, that you all for teaching me my ignorance, helping to understand what I don't understand and to help making me free more comfortable with my soon to be mine JT.

You all Rock!

Or, just call them and have it disabled ? That seems easy to me ...

Id wonder what you perceive as dangerous though ? It wont stop while in motion, If it is started, it wont drive without the keyfob in the vicinity of the truck ...

Unlock ? That could suck Ill admit ... I wouldn't want anyone in my truck ...

But "dangerous"? None of this seems truly dangerous ...

Now, if you just don't like it, I get that ...
People can drive their Jeeps without the key fob. Ive read stories here of people getting into their started Jeep and driving off without the key. Just cant shut it off at that point or you are screwed.

I was driving without doors and key was in my pocket, Jeep said no key detected. I proceeded to drive away anyway...

But to everyone's point, there is no danger. The Jeep will keep on running if it gets a command to stop. Now if they could gain control over the steering wheel I would worry...

So you get to choose whether you have seat belts or airbags? Both are known to actually *cause* harm in some cases. ABS can cause a problem in some set of situations. Did you disable it?

Some claim that Henry Ford said, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Steve Jobs also launched the world's most valuable company on the premise of telling people what they need, not giving them what they ask for.

If they want your vehicle, they WILL take it no matter what. All you can do is hope to slow them down a bit. Same way if they want in your vehicle, they WILL get in. I'm connected to U-Connect and have been for several years with different vehicles and Never had an issue with it.

I am curious, if the vehicle is in gear, can U-Connect turn it off. HMMMMMMM

Also U-Connect has a real time tracking system if your vehicle gets stolen or you cant find it on the parking lot.

"Can" is a difficult word when applied to technology security. There's the "can" of normal operations, versus the "can" of attacking the system and forcing it to do something it shouldn't. In the first case, no, it can't. It's the second case where there are unknown possibilities.

There is a firewall in our trucks called an SGW, which connects the actual vehicle operations bus to other devices. In fact to "hack" the truck with a Tazer JL, you have to bypass this module. So far, nobody has cracked it. Prior to the module, as posted above, some guys had some control of an older Jeep after attacking it physically. Absolutely nobody has managed to attack this system remotely. And it's likely impossible.

Well, I'm worried to be hacked and more that that to be a victim of faulty software, and by the way have you read this.
After all, All this "online" features (which I think totally useless, except navigation) must be optional, and I as an owner should be able to turn them off completely.

That's specifically about physically connected media, it even says so, nothing to do with the cellular features.

Where do you see anything about physically connected media in top paragraph?

The warning in the manual is a CYA from FCA, in the event that the system was breached. They are pushing to the owner the responsibility to watch for behavior that indicates the system has been affected. The odds of an actual breach are extremely low. All the reported incidents, so far, required prior physical access before they could be carried out.

The 'online' features are optional. If you don't want them, don't get the 8.4 Uconnect.

The remote functions do not provide direct access to the Uconnect system that would allow hacking. They are pre-programmed functions that can be carried out if certain requirements are met. The system receives the request, determines if it can be carried out, and responds with the result.
