I'd love to have a black four door JT with manual transmission and lockers. But I have to say that I'm not a fan of the vents on the hood, and I'm glad that there's no side vents behind the fender. I'm sure many would disagree with me, but to me those vents just aesthetically don't belong to off road/ expedition vehicles such as the Jeep.

It can't, it doesn't have the rear for it, so it has to be some variation thereof.

It could have two versions like the YJ's two options the Sport and Family bars, but in this case the JL/JLU and JT/JTU.

But from the previous road test photo from last month, it doesn't look like it has an internal cage based on the front interior shots. But that's far from definitive.

Which begs the question if the JT will need an internal cage due to having a removable top. If so it faces the same problem of continuing to build the JK as is, which is presumably why FCA is pushing it forward with the JL generation.

Could it be that the JT will be based more on the JK than the JL as a result, and maybe close off that roof?

Yeah, that's what it looks like may be the case, that there will be a design split between the two, and by recycling some of the JK line (even if just the paint shop, etc), there may be advantage to that in bringing it quicker to market or reducing the costs, and possibly allow the re-use of some of the stamping / fabrication equipment.

The issue with the shortened cab is how you leverage support for a cage, as it would be structurally stronger as a trapezoid than a rectangular prism.

It would still be possible to have an internal cage with additional angles, but would require a bit more intrusion into the occupant space to achieve that. They could also extend the structure past the rear towards the truck bed, but that poses a whole myriad of additonal challenges.

It would make more sense to do an external ROP cage attached at the fron of the bed to allow for more flexibility with the cab design.

For the arguments that the bed and the body would be hard to assemble, here is a explorer sport track. It has a similar line but not as extreme as shown in the renders. It was built upon a body on frame architecture and shared with the regular explorer(a derivative HD frame of the Ranger). I'm sure if Ford could figure out how to put this together then FCA could definitely build the JT with a more defined fender line.

It's definitely nowhere near as severe and angle, but most imoortantly it's also cosmetic, only on the outside about 6 inches inward, not extending under the cab, so similar to the JK8, it's only the outside panel that is tilted in, not the bed.

The rear of the SportTrac cab is rather flat with two notches on the side to accommodate those styling touches. Again, added work for little benefit, and even possible drawbacks if it impacts internal storage. They could use the space for in bed storage, but it's very inconvenient at the front of the bed, versus other options, and I'd take additional internal storage over bed storage every time.

Not only that but the vented hood would likely only be on the Hard Rock/Recon model Rubicons, not all Rubicons, as it currently is with the JK.

I love the 2 door white JL. It's my desktop wall paper.

For me, the side vents are a major visual distraction (maybe they will look better in person). The indentation just looks awkward where it runs into the flare. If it where a more distinct indentation, like one of the earlier renders, I would be fine with it. It's a very odd design IMO.

I hope the JT does not have the fender vents or at least there is an option without the fender vents. It would be nice if the JL had an option that excludes the side vents. I just hate to forego a Rubicon because it must include side vents.

I always wanted a Jeep pickup, so many teases over the decades, it's been very painful. But after buying A JKU, I am happy with a U and probably would by a JLU if not for the side vent styling. If the JT is the only model that does not have the side vents, then I would buy a JT (can't call it Gladiator). If both are offered without a side vent, then the decision gets really hard.

I don't think it's a big deal with the bed angle. It's a much more aesthetically pleasing design than the squared off render. Auto design is not just function but styling, some good, some not so good (fender vent LOL). Just because there is an angle on the surface, does not mean the cab and bed are not squared off.

The spy photo of the JL on the line looked very much like a Sport, and it had vents so nothing is certain regarding that.

Not exactly, the 75th anniversary, and other editions like the Chief or my Aspen-X have the vented hood and they are special editions based on the Sahara, so there is a few other options, and FCA could do anything with the JL/JT.

And as we've seen in the other forum, the spy photo of the production line JL had vents but no Rubi badging and high efficiency tyres (which could be for simply ferrying around the plant) which doesn't prove that it's a base feature on all models to Free's concern, but it also doesn't confirm it's a premium only feature either.

The JT having a front hood vent as seen in the CAD files, is something that looks likely to go across the whole JT platform, the side vents also look to be somewhat standard to the design and not an add/subtract feature.

One feature missing on most of the crew cabs is a rear seat that reclines an inch or two. Praying the back seats will not be as vertical as the JK seats are. I gladly give up an inch of leg room for an inch of recline....

i need the pickup to be a working pickup, a removable top is what drives me as well as the looks as i always liked the CJ's newer + older BUT they are a bit $$$ IMO + if the pickups are not priced similar to other pickups they will not get my $$$. i am willing to pay only competitive prices, yes its new but other manufactures redesign for a minimal price increase + jeep will need to be competitively priced to be a good seller + as noted haggling on an in demand truck is not possible, so i am hoping for a fair priced model WITHOUT a lot of junk aka packages that run the cost up. sure there are some with deep pockets that want it ALL but thats NOT me!!! yes its different but basically just another 4WD pickup with lots of competition!!

with the exception of TWO many doors it looks good!!! ground clearance is good when needed but in most cases its overdone, just like too big tyres!!! in the end to each his own as our tastes vary for sure.

Where did this come from? It's updated with the horizontal trim line on the doors!
