I just want to buy different wheels for my soon-to-be-delivered Mojave. I understand Mojave's have a different offset than other Glads to accommodate the wider shocks. I've read other threads on this forum that cover this topic, but I still am confused. Just for example, there is this formula posted on the JL forum to explain the JLUR wheel offset:

"The outer width of the wheel is 8 3/4" (7.5" inner). A zero offset for this is 4 3/8". The backspace is 6 1/8". The result is 6 1/8" - (8 3/4" / 2) = 1 3/4" or 44.45mm offset"

What kind of math major does it take to buy a wheel? I can't seem to find wheels online sold with a 44.45mm offset. This basic wheel, for example, is listed with a -6 offset. Will the linked wheel work on a Mojave? In simple terms, what offset do I need to know when buying wheels for my Mojave? Please help!

What you need to worry about is back spacing, not offset per se. Back spacing is how much clearance the inner edge of the rim will have and that's what matters for rubbing. The back spacing of a 7.5" rim at -10 is different than the back spacing of a 9.0" rim at -10. The -10 isn't what matters, it's the resulting back space.

A 7.5" -10 and a 9" -10 are 0.75" different on back space.

The wheels I am looking at are 9" -12 which is +1.5" of back space from factory. A good setup for these Jeeps.

Thank you very much for the help! So, if I want to search online for wheels that will work with my Mojave, what should I put in the Google search bar? Should I search for: "17" wheels with -44 offset"? Because that comes up empty. I know I need a 5x5 bolt pattern. I understand wheel width. But searching for " -44 offset" fails to find much of anything. Or, do I not get it and should not use "-44 offset" in a wheel search because that offset is accomplished with wheel spacers?

You dont have to match the stock offset, and imo shouldnt. Go with at least a 8.5” wheel to better accommodate larger tires and select offset/back spacing from there.

This is a 8.5” wide wheel on +25mm offset with a 12.5” tire

OP- What size tire do you want to run, and do you want the tire/wheel to sit mostly under the fender flares, or protrude out more? If a 35” or so tire, and you want it mostly inside, look for a wheel between +30 and +12. If you want them to sit more outside the flares, look for one between 0 and -44.

I'd like to run a 35"x11.5" Toyo Open Country III tire and have the tires as tucked in as possible without risking interfering with the Mojave shocks.

I went through the same exercise trying to figure out what to get on my mojave. I ended up buying 17 by 9 in wheels with 18 offset. Had to choose between 18 and 0. Kept original tires and wanted them to stick out just a little bit more than stock. After installing the new wheels my tires are about 1/2 in out further than stock and I am very happy with that. Zero offset would have been another quarter in or so which is fine too but I am happy with the 18

with most wheels they offer for sale, you will be fine. Just depends on how far in or out you want em to stick. Gather your choices, paste on a wall, close your eyes and throw a dart. 99.9% of them are gonna fit with no issue.

-44 offset is going to be enormous poke on basically any wheel. The stock are +44.5. If you went from 7.5" +44 stock wheel to say an 8.5" -44 wheel the lip would be 3" further out than stock, which is quite a lot.

Offset and widths are the inputs to calculating back spacing.

All depends how much you want the wheels to get away from the arms, how much you want them to be outside the fenders, how wide your tires are, and if you have a Rubicon or Max Tow which are already wider.
