They replaced the battery but the visor buttons have never worked and I have been here since 7:30 this morning. They said they are waiting for Jeep to call them back about the visor. Whether to replace it or run more tests. This shit is annoying. I think Jeep should have a limit, if they don’t call within three hours, replace it.
I'm sorry to hear about that experience you had with your dealer yesterday. I hope they were able to get everything worked out. But if not, please reach out to us directly and we can get you the additional support that you need.

Thanks,

Courtney

Light pedal pressure not activating ESS on a JT/JL/JLU is normal behavior for all.
Yeah. I'be basically re-learned to stop at a light by letting up once stopped to keep the ESS from doing it's thing. Now my ESS won't work even when I apply full pressure the brake pedal while stopped. I think my aux battery is dead now,, even though I drive 45 each way to/from work.

I've had the very same issue. If I'm not driving it every day or every other day, or God forbid go 4 days or more without driving it, the battery is charging and ESS dosn't work. Takes a good long while to charge fully. There is either a problem with these batteries, or some kind of drain on them. This would never fly if it was the main battery. Could you imagine? Jeep needs to look into this as it seems like a common problem.

The dealer replaced it today. I drove home over an hour and it still says it’s charging. Is that normal?

I had this same issue with my 2016 Cherokee. Battery kept saying it was charging. Dealership replaced the battery, same indications. Further troubleshooting pointed to the AUX battery charging circuit off of the alternator. Once they replaced that, the system charged and has worked like a champ every since.

Were it me ..... since one or both batteries were replaced today, I would hook up a battery tender/maintainer to it tonight and let it charge as needed, both the batteries. Do this and you will know for a fact that both batteries are fully charged.

Would not be unusual for a new battery to be installed by a dealer without it being fully charged...

Using a low amp out battery charger / maintainer, (say a 1.25 amp model) hook it up to the Main batteries positive and negative terminals. Do this and both batteries will be charged..

You want to use a low amp output charger / maintainer as the little 12AH 200CCA AGM, Aux battery is in the mix and won't deal well lets say, with a high amp charger/maintainer..
I only have a tender for my motorcycle but the aux battery looks like a motorcycle battery.

Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind. I’m waiting on a radio and the steering box. The steering box is on backordered, so I’ll have plenty of time to see if this charges.

The Cherokee is a single battery system, evidently it benefits from changing the battery sensor when the battery is changed.

Among the visits I have had to address my ESS, when the technicians ā€œresetā€ the battery sensor, they will tell me the batteries are fully charged, but will not activate ESS until the sensor has ā€œre-learnedā€. They tell me that takes about 200-miles or 4-hours of highway driving (not sure what highway has people going 50-mph, but whatever).

So, in my experience, the technicians can fully charge the batteries and the vehicle will still require significant driving time to reactivate ESS.

I have same issue if it sits for a week or so. Drove it 60 miles on interstate before battery was charged enough for ESS to work. Why do they have to make this so complicated. 1 good battery would have been perfect.

didn't read this whole thread, but I just had the secondary battery replaced under warranty as my ESS was disabled & displayed the warning light

my concern going forward is if this battery setup in the JT will be a hindrance? in other words, how do I know the replacement secondary battery will fair better than the original

Did yours ever start working again?

When they replaced the battery in our JL they also said it could take a while before the ESS would work.
However, it worked on the drive home, around 5 miles from the dealer and so far seems functional again.
We still tend to turn it off most of the time, but do check every once and a while now.

My issue is not yet resolved. Since October it hasn’t worked UNLESS I charge the batteries via a tender. When that is done, ESS works for 5-7 days before going back to not working.

Service technicians have yet to offer a battery replacement, next up is the battery sensor.

Good possibility the Tech that did your AUX battery replacement actually took the time to place the battery he was going to install on a charger to bring it up to full charge before he installed it... Not all Techs/most don't... will do this, unfortunately..

--With that said, either your Tech did or the battery he was given by parts, was new stock/had a decent charge..
I do know it was new or newer stock.
They said they have been replacing quite a few of them and we were lucky they had one, some folks have had to come back after they tested things and found the battery(s) bad and they had replacements in stock.
