The Philistine thread - non-lifted Gladiators and not likely to be, either

My people my people! I have found my people! Literally was talking to my coworker and said I don't need a lift. I do some gravel, sand, dirt, but have no real desire to go crawling...so no need to upgrade the suspension. I did the .75" leveling kit up front because I didn't care for the rake it had. Swapped to Rubicon Shocks because they seem to respond a little more quickly. Had the Rubicon take offs...but the weight on those suckers were way too much. I like my 22-24 mpg a lot more than the 16-17mpg I was getting with the Rubicon wheel and tire set up. I do plan on going with a little more meaty tires on the Overland, but that is about it. I do have crazy ideas that I try to hold in check like Supercharger and lowering it...but it's a jeep...I am not going to mess it up by lowering...but that Supercharger...hmmmmm....

My son-in-law keeps telling me how I need to lift our Mojave. I don't think so.... The Mojave is perfect for the type of off-roading we do. I have had zero issues with it. The suspension is great, the truck doesn't wander on the highway, gas mileage is acceptable. I read all the time on this forum about how people lift their Gladiators and put on bigger tires - then end up with lousy gas mileage, having steering issues, etc, etc.

Did fine this winter and off-roading. So probably just bigger tires and keep the towing.

I am surprised to hear that you saw that much of a change using the Rubicon take offs.

I have Rubicon take offs on my Wrangler JL and I saw about 2 mpg difference after I made the swap.
Some of that I think is from not bothering to get it recalibrated to the new size.

I also did not notice a huge difference in weight from the Stock S wheels/tires.
My 80th wheels/tires (same as an Overland I believe) are not that much smaller than the Rubicons and seem to be in the middle of the Sport S and Rubicon in size.

Not sure if it has to do with the gearing...I don't think it would have been a big deal if I were running 4.10...but the Overland is a lot lower and the weight difference was substantial. I think it was around 22lbs per wheel/tire including the spare. It shouldn't make a big difference, but the rotational mass is a big deal.

I’ve always lifted my vehicles, but I bought the Mojave with the idea that I might be able to leave it stock height for a while at least (with a 5 mo old and a 2.5 yr old lifting kids into a tall rig isn’t easy considering I’m only 5’4”). Put some 35s and new wheels on her and it rides and drives perfect. Maybe one day I’ll do a spacer lift and 37s after the boys can climb in on their own.

Will never lift my Mojave since stock is already so nice. That's one reason I went with the Mojave as I told my wife I wouldn't do any big mods if she'd let me get it. When it's time for new tires, I'll probably get 35s since I have the high fenders.

A joke was made in another thread about Gladiator owners who don't put a lift kit on, being considered Philistines by the 'lifted' crowd and I thought maybe we could have our own thread here. I bought my Sport-S about 3 weeks ago and I love it. Not that I don't want larger tires, I surely do, but a lift kit isn't in my foreseeable future. It's just too much money for the lift, then for new wheels to accommodate bigger tires. When I wear my tires out in a couple of years, I'll be buying the 285/70R17's which will get me to about a 33'' tire, but until then, I'm perfectly happy running stock.

That doesn't mean I don't partake in other mods, I've converted the entire front set of lights to LED's and I'll be looking at doing other things as well.

of course many other mods can be made and it is subjective... a new sticker for tge hood... a set of grab handles... a new antenna... everyone has their own ideas

Recalibrate even for that small of a tire change and it will adjust your shift points and your mileage will come back at least that was my experience when I moved to 285/70/17 generals , it was only an inch recalibration but it went back to handling 8th gear just like stock

My Rubicon does 99.9% of the trails I drive, and not are all smooth, graded gravel roads. That's why I got that trim. Does everything I need/want it to do out of the box. I like practicality. If I find myself on a lot of trails where it can't go without a lift, then I'll reconsider. I'd rather spend money on gas going places, and camping gear when I get there.

$200 for the rubi take offs. Got JKS disconnects. Adding a Terraflex spacer to the front to negate the tiny bit of rubbing I get while flexed. Running a 33 mud tire. I'll take my Philistine comments.

With the Rubi spring and Teraflex (1 or 1.5)spacer did you have to do any geometry correction to the front suspension, this is the rout I am now going
