Am I correct that Mojave wheels on a Max Tow will stick out past the fenders? DailyMoparGuy's pics look like Rubicon size tires are pretty close to the edge of the fender. Mojave's different backspacing will make them protrude ~1/2" right?

Well, that question is now a moot point for me. Picked up a set of Rubicon wheels over the weekend. Looking at the install, I would say a Mojave wheel with the lower offset would definitely stick out.

Also, I see a lot of before/after pictures, how about a “during” pic? Really shows the size difference, I think. Stock Rubicon MT on unlifted Max Tow Sport

Jeep is 100% stock sport S with a diesel. The tire are E load rated Falkon WildPeak A/T3W - Size: LT255/80R17 that are spec'ed at 33.1" tall and 10" wide and a weight of 52.5Lbs each.

Rubicon Falkons for reference, are C rated, 285/70R17, 32.8" tall, and 11.1" wide with a weight of 63.7Lbs.

I'm really happy with the results. Weight is a big issue for me both to try and manage my GVW and also for milage and drivability. With 5 tires I'm saving 56Lbs using rubicons take-offs as an alternative. The stock rims work perfectly so that is a win because I like the black sport rims. This is a dedicated adventure vehicle not a daily driver so for me going to an E load rating was a plus because of the heavy weight I carry when loaded for trips. The extra height has improved my offroad benchmarks at the local playground. The edge of the tire is nicely inside the fender just like the stock ones.

As a side note, the stock 245/75R17 Goodyear's that came on the jeep have been the worst tire experience of my 30 years of driving. I expected to get a reasonable life out of the stock tires before upgrading. Unfortunately, I had a complete tire failure within 1500 miles that required a replacement. The tire was leaking air from multiple small tears at the roots of the tread. I gots figure the belts were just letting go. I had two more that got punctures within the first 7000 miles. By 9000 miles all four including the replacement had missing lugs or missing patches of lugs as well as chips out of remaining lugs. I have never experienced a tire that was so woefully unsuited for the task as these are for a jeep. It has honestly shaken my opinion of Goodyear. These seem like some crap Chinese tires. While I do drive off-road a fair bit I don't abuse my Jeep or its tires. This kind of tire failure just does not make sense to me.

So 33x12.5 17. Would the 12.5 be to wide? I do have new wheels with -12 offset and 4.73 backspace along with 1.5 tereflex front level. Want to pull the trigger on these and really want the 12.5 width, just worry about rub from the width. Anyone else have similar setup?

Got a set of Mojave wheels with Falken AT 285 70 17 tires last weekend. My truck is a Sport S 6MT 3.73 axle, which came with 245 75 17.

For the first short distance I was unpleasantly surprised in the difference in dynamics. Acceleration seemed to have turned for the noticeably lackluster and braking seemed to require a much more early reaction and more pedal pressure.

Pretty quickly found that once I reacclimated to shifting at different RPMs, which have all sort of changed around (more than I expected)(but that I am now fully OK with), it's great. Braking has become second nature- different, but not worse. It really seems as if the ECU has also "relearned" in a way that the acceleration is now just fine. I actually like - a lot - where the overall ratios have landed - with the factory 245 75 tires, I often found myself wishing I could shift up a gear, but finding that the next gear up wasn't really right, either. Now I just hold it in the lower gear longer and it seems "just right" at the speed that I find myself wanting to go in any particular gear.

Haven't recalibrated the speedometer, but, judging by the GPS speed indications, it doesn't seem off enough to even bother.

MPG seems like a break-even. A bit lower on interstate highway cruising at speed but a bit better in some parts of "mixed" driving conditions.
