Maybe I’m getting crotchety or maybe it’s because I haven’t had my coffee yet, but I don’t see any way this thread belongs here. If I had a problem with a dishwasher, I wouldn’t bring it to a refrigerator board, even if they were both made by Whirlpool.

I can understand your viewpoint. Given that a JT 4XE version will eventually appear, I think it is a good discussion regardless of the current frustrations on the JL side that may be a precursor to what a JT version may bring.

EV is pretty awful in cold weather. This is nothing new. I have a cousin whose wife is all about the environment. She had an EV and loved it. That was until winter came. Would barley hold a charge, if any. She got rid of it and said she would never own another EV again.

EV has a way to go before it's reliable.
This is our 4th plug-in. This is the first one that won’t use electric in mild colder temps, like over 40. Ev’s get less range in cold weather, but that’s not our issue, nor is holding a charge. It holds a charge and never uses it. The best cold weather trick is to pre start the car with it plugged in. That way you hear the cabin and warm up the car on AC power. Keeping it plugged in also keeps the batteries warmer. Not all EVs are created equal. Which one did your friend have?

It’s here because we are also JT owners, and I’m a member of this forum. It’s time sensitive, and can’t wait days to be admitted to another forum. If you want to ignore if you have nothing to add, that would be fine.

I have both as well and the 4xe is getting roughly 24mpg. It’s 22f right now. Certainly not the 40 some seem to get. But I still like the 4xe

Look up Tesla cold weather.
Stop. This is not a Tesla. Has anyone noticed me repeatedly mentioning that we understand that you get less range in colder weather? Either read the thread before responding, or please ignore a thread you have nothing to contribute to. This is not a range issue.

I’d get better mpg with a non 4xE wrangler with the 4 cylinder turbo, and spend more than 10k less. About the same for us over 500 miles on the odometer. I get close to that mpg in town with our JTR.

I can get 28 with the jtwd. Won’t lie I’m a little disappointed in what the 4xe is putting down for mpg.

You should be, as it’s documented to do much better. We don’t get 28 with our 3.6, but easily get 23-24 at in town speeds. The 4xE does no better than that, which is worse than the wrangler with 4 cylinder turbo, but no electric. Again, our issues isn’t hybrid mpg, but that electric mode simply doesn’t work in colder temps, and since it’s not documented, it was a surprise after purchase. @JeepCares, I’d appreciate your response, or a PM.

I hope yours works, as it would be an indication that ours could be fixed, but I’m not optimistic. The problem here is that if it’s designed to work this way, it needed to be communicated to buyers and customers through documentation. It seems to have been strategically left out. @JeepCares?

Except there is a private means of reaching out directly to @JeepCares and there’s also a whole sub section for vehicles that aren’t Gladiators and you didn’t use either. ?ā€ā™‚

Yea at 24mpg I’d think she is not getting much out of electric. Charged every night and it’s dead at the end of her 40 mile commute. That’s in highbred mode
Idk about full electric though. I’ll look into it and report back and yes It should be clearly stated it won’t work in the cold if that’s the case….

Please go through the forum and find every post that’s not about gladiators, Jeeps at all, or general Jeep threads. This is a public post as other gladiator owners also have 4xE’s and to alert any gladiator owners who might be in the market for one. If you have nothing of substance to add, please ignore this.
