How would anyone know that? You could pretty much use that logic as a defense against anything. “I was framed” is as old as crime itself….
Exactly. No one would know that. But, no one knows they did it either.

I'm all for calling someone out. Especially for graffiti like that. But, I have to know I have the right person to call them out on it.

I also still believe in being innocent until proven guilty. Its a staple of our country.

This is why it was recommended to report them to BLM. Let law enforcement follow due process.

I will say though, it’s a hard argument to make. Some random person in Moab tagged his social media account to get him in trouble and then tagged his children’s names as well? There is also reasonable suspicion…

Just go on there and and talk shit to them. I made an instagram just for this and got kicked off for bothering some photographer and his girlfriend who did a huge spraypaint job in my local mountains.

We don't have to agree on the approach to the rentals - they are adults.

The DOXing of the kids however should get deleted.
I think this hardly would count as doxing. Firstly, we are assuming the names are his kids, we don't actually know that. Secondly, he is the one that wrote them. If I had gone to his Instagram account and screenshot pictures of the kids and posted them here, or found the names through some sleuthing and shared it that would be one thing. Posting an image directly written by this guy while committing a crime is hardly is the same thing.

However, I could see how it would come across that way, and I'll edit the original post to remove that picture in case it is the kids names.

I wonder if you could sand blast it away without doing any more damage.....?
A few weeks ago I read a large article on the social mediocre crowd and defacing such natural and/or ancient wonders. It's the selfie, me me me crowd for the most part.
Sometimes these things can be removed (at great cost in time and effort) and sometimes not, it's permanent.

I'd be for making very public what they've done - post it everywhere and give them the attention they deserve.

Somebody needs to simmer down. Sure it is preferred that ppl don’t do this sorta thing but geez man, don’t you have anything positive that you can focus all this energy on? Maybe take all the wasted time to plan another outing with your kids
Seriously? This is exactly why it still goes on.
These parks don't belong to anyone, they belong to everyone, to the past, to the future, all people for all eternity (or as long as there are humans on the planet)
At some point 100 years from now someone will look back at that and wonder what the heck we were all thinking letting it happen.
Some things are not harmful to people or places - and some things are, and are forever.

times like this I wish the Native Americans had won.

Triple “like”. And I hate social media. This forum is as close as I’ll ever get. I could not have said this better. No more excuses. No more leniency. Penalties. Fines. Lifetime ban from all national and state parks, and monuments. If you behave like this, you should be required to stay home.

IMO, people who deface parks, history, "public places" are selfish, irresponsible. It makes me wonder - would they be the very first to hit the roof if someone dared scratch their car or truck and want to get back at them?
It just indicates some things to me............. and is that what parents are teaching kids?

I was exploring out by Moab this weekend near some caves with pictographs and came across this:

PXL_20220311_215517970.jpg

This type of crap makes me furious. What sane person is going to spend the time to drive out in the middle of nowhere, then write down their Instagram and what I assume are their kids' names on a wall? How stupid do you have to be.

I just don't understand it.
We saw the same thing on the ancient petroglyphs in Inscription Canyon near Rainbow Basin, CA. Drive to the desert and graffiti like a dumb a$$ gang member.

While I don't like the fact that they did it...this does present an Interesting paradox...graffiti on a rock that has graffiti on it from neolithic people.:)

We went to Mammoth Cave last year and in the depths of the cave people used candles to soot their names all over the ceiling. The guide told us that they used to conduct tours and would sell the candles to do it in WWII "Kilroy was here" was scribbled all over everything. This is nothing new. Just not enough time has passed to give it "historical" context.

Full disclosure: This & the JL forum is as close to social media as I get.

I think we may be getting to a point in time where we need to remove the warning labels from everything & let natural stupidity start thinning the herd.

They also did not have paper or canvas to use for art. This was their only medium. We have progressed. Or so I thought.

This is exactly the problem, we fail to recognize the significance. Not to mention their written word at the time was done pictorially.

Sort of like walking into the library and spray painting the pages of books or the Louvre and drawing angry brows on the Mona Lisa and saying “but humans did it so it’s okay”
