Lifting and ride quality can be a real pain. Stiffer springs and shocks along with more CA angle can transmit much of the bump into the frame and make for a stiff ride. Added weight for overland travel vs empty for home use, good luck. If you are going to go from 500-700 loaded to zero it's going to be fun getting a good ride for both. Perhaps air bags in the coils and adj shocks. I went through all that on my JKUR and still working on it.
I swapped out the some pieces but I already had a Mopar lift, so the geometry didn't change much. The Mopar lift was great just didn't handle the weight as well.

Problem with the airbags people are using are that they are not really conducive to Offroad. They pinch racially inside the spring. Also are difficult to maintain at a set rate. Air helper bags would be great that go directly to the frame but don’t know of any yet.

Anyone have suspension squeak after install? I had Fox 2.5 shocks and Dobinson springs along with several Steer Smarts items installed. I have read that it may be coming from things being torqued while on a lift and not on the ground. I am going to loosen things today while it is on the ground and re-torque to see what happens.
Honestly that could definitely be an issue goviwn if the bushings are torqued at an angle that differs when settled at stock height. Personally this is where I’d start looking and sounds like you are on tract to get it fixed.

My firestone bags only lasted a few months before rupturing...

I am going to have to cut them apart to remove them and I may still have to remove the springs to get them out.

I had the Fox 2.5 shocks and Dobinsons springs installed a few days ago. Huge improvement with the body roll feeling. I still feel some slight hop around 30-35mph but I also need to learn more about the shock adjustment and dial it all in. For now it is MUCH stiffer. I also had several Steer Smarts items installed but honestly I can't tell much difference with those. I forgot to get a measurement with the Mopar 2" lift shocks and springs before the install. It does not look to be sagging at all. I don't have a full cabinet build inside but I did have at least 150lbs more of parts in the back yesterday and still didn't really notice any sag.

Im getting ready to install my RSI cap and Decked system just want to be prepared for any rear sag

the front with a 3/4 daystar spacer is saggin about 1.5 in the front with no cap on

I never noticed much sag even with just the Mopar lift. I installed new shocks and springs and I still don't notice much. I think it looks great how it sits now. The photo below is with just the 2" Mopar lift, springs and shocks.

Thanks for the info! Do you feel any bouncing now with the AEV setup?
A little update Jeremy, now that the build-out is about 80% done. I will be switching to the 3" heavy springs from AEV. Starting to feel a little bounce in the rear.

I will ad this as we initially ran the HD springs from Clayton. They are great springs but with us with the ACC camper and fully loaded out for the arctic we noticed that they compressed a bit. In doing so we felt that we could go with a heavier duty spring and gain some travel and ride quality. We ended up going with the Dobson Extra HD springs. We also ended up putting in an icon spacer since we had a 3.5” lift. Something honestly we may have been able to do with the Clayton’s. Which we had to put in inner coil airbags. To handle the weight. Regardless the dobsons are short. But seem to be a great solution. I do think a helper air bag like the ones I’ve seen in AUS on tray/canopy rigs like bagman would be a mush better option than just a hd spring if you’re changing weight a lot or ability to dial it in. Especially towing. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the AEV springs too. Only down fall
For us was we wanted a heavier duty spring than they offered. I’ll have to get some pics with them installed. We will though need to work out some limiting straps with our rear as we run the Teraflex LT suspension and don’t want issues even though upper spring is retained from bottom when at full droop. Always something when pushing the limits.

Following this thread closely as I am going to build out a JT with ACC soon. Looks like a static 800lbs+ on the rear so as far as I can tell the best-published option is AEVs 3" high capacity @ 700lbs top capability which still isn't enough but its more than Dobsons EXTRA HEAVY DUTY COIL SPRINGS top range they advertise @ 660 lbs.

Dobson C29-249VB

C29-249VB 3” will need an icon spacer for spring for 3.5” lifts. Also recommend the Teraflex spring retainer. Spacer mounts below spring and retainer inside to the top. Retainer won’t work if running airbags. Springs rated for 880lbs-1210lbs. These are the springs we are currently running.

Before we were running the Clayton triple rate springs. With Airbag inserts no spacer. Didn’t feel like it was handling the weight loaded. Not currently running airbags and have zero issues loaded to the hilt. Well over GVWR if we desired.
  • Triple Rate
  • Free Length = 21.500" +/-.25
  • Spring Rate 1 = 190 lbs/in
  • Spring Rate 2 = 280 lbs/in
  • Spring Rate 3 = 360 lbs/in

Made an editable spreadsheet. Has AEV, Dobson, and Clayton Springs. Feel free to ad dithers as they become available.

Wait. I’m sure I’m reading this incorrectly. All of these are clearly stronger than any of the stock springs - max tow vs rubicon vs standard. But how do these numbers actually work? Clayton top rate is 360 meaning… what exactly in terms of weight ?

Damn that thing weighs 470lbs? Glad I went with another option.

Try BDS Ram 1500 springs. I have them on my rear in combination with my 3” JKS springs in front. They’re amazing. Fully loaded in the bed, with the trailer hooked up, I’ve never been lower than level. And empty it rid s great without harshness if any kind.
