I got better gas mileage in a 392 Challenger than my Mojave. 392 really isn’t that bad if you don’t drive like an asshole all the time.

I thought that was the point of a Challenger? To *be* an ahole. Audi and BMW owners can't hog all the attention. (I own an A4)

It wont go in the wrangler gladiator...

Nikasil plated cylinders have issues and always have with peeling chipping and flaking coating. This required engine block replacement vs boring/honing like a standard engine. Add to that the harsh enviroments our vehicles are in and thats a recipe for disaster.

Also twin turbo so two to fail. Turbo's dont like extreme heat like in 4 wheeling trail use.

Direct injection? here we go again. Ford learned their lesson and have reverted to providing a port injector to keep the valves clean. When every wrangler owner needs to walnut blast their valves at 30k miles like VW owners the brand will suffer quickly.

They should further develop the 2.0L turbo into a more effective power plant and offer it in more midsize vehicles similar to what ford did.

that alternator will need to be moved up to be used in a Wrangler vehicle

So there ended up being nothing to the reports of tighter cylinder spacing. Possibly that was inferred from the use of the spray in coating over cylinder liners.

I like the idea of a stronger engine, but I'm also plenty happy with the pentastar for my driving needs. Admittedly I drive like a grandpa and I work from home, so my driving habits are different than mosts. I had the pentastar in my JK, and now have it in my JT and in the wife's WK2.

I’m just going to wade into these waters right here to suggest that I could see a future where a possible Hercules gets released with such a power plant. As well, i can’t help but think that such a thing might be an option in the Mojave which already has a focus on keeping the sprung weight low.
I suspect HEMI is dead... this is the future.

Chances of the HO being an option in a JL/JT probably nil.
Unlikely, not sufficient space in the engine bay length wise.

So that sounds like a BMW 3.0L to me. But all kidding aside they did take a page out of the BMW book, it’s the same internals as the 2.0 4cyl they have now. 0.5L per cylinder, that will vastly reduce costs across the engine platform. BMW has done that for years now. So has Mercedes. I’m a big fan of the straight 6. My wife has the X4M with 510 Hp and 600NM of torque and it’s a bloody rocket. And we are talking about a 4000Lb sport utility. The Gladiator weighs 4600lb so this engine will be a vast improvement

While I would really love a more powerful engine (as long as it could be attached to a manual transmission), how about just lower final drive options from the factory? I don’t drive on the interstate at all, 4.88:1 would at least let me use all 6 gears…
It would feel much “faster” or whatever you want to insert…

The Challenger is geared much differently, and, while not state-of-the-art by any means, has a much more aerodynamic shape than a JL or JT. So, the 392 in the Challenger gets much better mileage than the 392 Wrangler. I really considered a 392 Rubicon, but the real world mileage is just pretty abysmal, which obviously makes the range not good. With the Mojave I can easily get 18-19 city and 22-23 on the road. And honestly, I just don‘t mind the power of the Pentastar at all. I enjoy cruising in it. Rip-snorting about is more fun in other platforms anyway. Direct injection scares me too. I’ll keep my Pentastar and supercharged Hemi. Glad I got both before they go away.
