Carvana was $7,000 lower than other online places...... soured me. But then I can't sell this one and wait 2 months for another - I'm getting into show and swap meet season. Need the truck.

I was snooping around on a local dealer's web site (not the other ones around Des Moines, a different place, different corporate owner) and some they had 2K under MSRP, not many, but a few, and that caught my interest. Maybe they'll do better than MSRP. So I made contact, explained my thinking - and then told them what I was looking at and they right away said sorry, we only sell MSRP, we don't discount and don't do any affiliate program discounts. That was that, thank you for your time. No discount at all, no affiliate discounts - they don't do any of that. MSRP or nothing. That's like the dealer I bought through (until I told them I was walking away from the order......)

Any specific person at Gupton or just generic contact and they assign the next available sales guy like most do?
Got quotes through CarMax and Carvana for my Vehicle sale. Carvana was $7k lower than Carmax for me as well.

I have two coworkers that recently sold their Jeeps and both shopped them to Carvana and Carmax, and both got higher offers from local dealerships. I'm sure location will have more to do with it than anything though.

Just throwing it out there, since that's never really been a viable option anywhere I've lived, in my lifetime. The market is weird right now.

A lot of people say they've gotten great values from Carvana...I feel like they are more of a low ball and then triple the price dealer. LOL.

I sold my 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 in 2019 to a dealer for 19
All of the online places were at least 3 less, and the biggies tried to convince me 14 was good. The Jeep dealer was offering 16.5
KBB, Carvana, etc. - what a joke when a local dealer in just a few minutes writes me a check for 19 with no hassle, no quibble.

Has anyone done a trade in with Gupton? I’m wondering how close to maket trade in value they are, considering they have such a great discount on ordered vehicles. I’m considering whether to trade my current Gladiator to avoid the hassle of a local sale.

That's the direction I'd go - drive mine down, drive away with new but I may have to try contact again - so far, no response.

I've now purchased 2 Jeeps from Gupton. If Daniel doesn't reply within about an hour, chances are you'll have to reach out again. It's probably the most frustrating part of the experience, and likely contrary to your thoughts on how it should be done :) I will also note that he is out on Wednesdays, so you'll probably have better luck following up with him tomorrow.

People do get busy. I'm a bit surprised, but then, I don't know them or their dealership.
It's not surprising that I've not heard back from the local dealer - they know they can low-ball someone on a trade and get full MSRP on a new sale so why bother with me?
On the other hand - they can sell a new one fresh from the factory, not store it on the lot. The argument that "I can sell this truck full price to the next sucker" really doesn't make any sense as they could sell an order for less money and still make a profit while waiting for someone to come in and pay full price for one on the lot.
Not discounting something on the lot makes sense. It's there, they own it, someone will see it and eventually pay MSRP.
But not discounting a special order makes no sense. Some profit is something.
Why not sell something they don't even have and at least made something?
Otherwise they are sitting up there in an office, drinking coffee, eating donuts, all while they wait for someone to come in and buy off the lot. Volume counts - I've been in retail.
Any fool can sell cars - but selling them with a friendly face, and service gets people back.
By not even offering to talk about it, they have convinced me not to talk to them in the future. Don't mess with xxxxxx, they never budge. Why bother?

I got a response from Walter yesterday. Daniel apparently off or super-swamped.

I think this is going to be a deal killer for me.
They do take trades, but.........
They will not value your trade until the new one comes in, likely in two months. In that time your trade will drop in value.
Plus - a phrase in their email to me - because they sell at a big discount, they have to value trades accordingly.
In other words if right now, today, you could take your current JT to a dealer, trade for one on the lot and get $44,000 for your trade, by the time your new one came in at Gupton and because they discount new, they discount trades, you'd likely get more like $40,000, maybe less.
So they sort of make up for the big discount by allowing less on a trade.
That has given me pause as I can only do something based on the numbers working.
I can get a great deal on a new one from them - but the flip side is that they'd give me so much less for my trade that it would be the same as paying MSRP here but getting top dollar for my trade.
IF you don't have a trade, Gupton is a hell of a deal.
If you have a trade, think carefully as you'll have two strikes against you:
The passage of time, maybe 2 months, what will your trade be worth then?
Because they discount new so heavily, they can't give you high end of the range for your trade.

That's what the email I got said.

Yeah Gupton was killer for me, but I also fully recognized that it might not have been if I had had something to trade.

gupton is selling me my gladiator rubicon which stickers for 57 something for 7k less. my local dealers all wanted 57. my plan is to sell my self and use that money as a down payment, even if that means i have to share the wifes car for a week. has anyone traded with gupton and gotten a much lower offer? a trade would be easiest

You can sell your vehicle for a lot more than they can give on trade. That's typical of most dealerships. They have to buy or allow trade at wholesale so they can sell at retail.
That means a truck like mine could be sold privately for just for example one of the numbers I have seen - 48,000
No dealer is going to give 45 TOPS, and likely would be under 44K
So you can get thousands more selling it, and because of the Gupton new vehicle deep discount program, they can't even allow what another dealer would allow because that other dealer will sell at or close to MSRP and make their money there.
In short/summary:
You can sell it for much more than Gupton can possibly allow due to their new vehicle discount
and
Another dealer that sells new for MSRP can afford to allow you more on a trade than Gupton.

This is NOTHING against Gupton! It's pure economics, business survival. They have to make money somewhere or close the doors.
Their deal is killer, top, fantastic for someone just wanting to buy a new Jeep. Likely hard to find any better, or much better.
If I didn't have my current truck for trade, I'd probably have already ordered from them.
They are being honest and up-front.

I had the same basic issue. I didn’t trust any deal made for an order at any in-state dealer (MSRP or above), and I also didn’t trust that any offer they made on my trade would be honored when the Gladiator arrived. Instead I ordered from Gupton and sold my trade outright. While I lost the sales tax advantage, over half of that amount was made up by the private-sale amount on the vehicle. The Gupton deal was $thousands better than any local deal, and just importantly the information in this thread gave me reason to believe their deal would be as advertised and easy. And it was exactly that. I’ll definitely buy from them again based on their willingness to sidestep the “normal” deceptive dealer sales practices.
