Hello new to forums . Just got a rubicon eco diesel . Traded my 2021 sport tow max that had 35’s 2” mopar lift .

my question is…
I really want to put 35s and 2” mopar on the rubicon BUT I don’t want to sacrifice interstate driveability.

with 35’s on the interstate will it downshift going up hills like the pentastar ??

on the stock 33’s it will stay in 8th at 75 and continue sailing up the hill.

what is everyone’s thoughts on 35s interstate performance

I haven't taken delivery of my JTRD yet, but from what I read the Rubicon Diesel can stay in 8th even with 37's. Now going up hills is a wild card as it would all depend on the steepness.

I have a Willys diesel, and with the cruise on going down the interstate, it will go to 7th on larger hills, (hills, not mtn passes), and Im on stock tires for the moment. So that no searching for gears with 37s is crap....it will go down a gear to keep speed up. And I usually set the cruise right on 2k rpm which equates to approx. 78 mph

35s on a JTRD is perfect and I would probably skip the 2" lift unless you just like the look...

Curious. I also have a JTRD with a 2in Mopar lift. Came stock with the Wild Peak 33's. Is there that much of a difference going from a 33 to a 35? Maybe an inch more height? Seems so small a difference.

Just curious.

My diesel on 35s rarely downshifts, but it does happen occasionally. No more than any stock gasser on the highway encountering hills - certainly not annoyingly so. I do not have a lift, only a level…not sure how much the additional lift would play into things.

Ok good to know 35’s won’t make it downshift as much . I love the way it drives now just want more aggressive look.

it is night and day different than the gasser I had .

I am in the same boat and with my ecodiesel ill be running a 38" milestar patagonia tire. It absolutely has the torque to turn it in 8th gear.

My maxtow with 35's climbed hills in 4th wide open. the diesel just chugs right up. Its really amazing.

My plan is to regear to a 4.56 in the future and add a front truetrac.

I live at 4500 ft. My diesel stock Sport S had the little pizza cutters on it. Would get into 7th going up to 6k if I kept it in manual mode it would hold 8th. Put Rubicon take off tires on. (33s) Pretty much the same deal. But I do notice sometimes in manual it will drop into 5-6 then I just kick it into 7 or 8. Using in auto mode stays in 7th. I imagine 35's will be a little more searching on hills. I usually cruise at around 72mph.

imperial 35s are 34.5. metric 35s (315/70r17) are 34.4. metric 33s (your stock tire) are 32.7. You'll gain about 9/10th an inch in body height. That being said, you're also going from 11.2 to 12.5 (or 12.4 for metric 35s) tire width. doing the math for imperial 35s vs metric 33s, you're only gaining 5% diameter and 11.6% width, but those small changes increase your total tire volume (assuming straight sides and including rims) by 24%. Small changes add up.

That being said, if you've got a diesel (and therefore no reason to regear) and already have the lift, no reason not to get 37s

Yeah my max tow struggled up hills , 3rd 4th 5th maxed out rpm . Diesel on the same hill 8th gear no issues . It’s crazy the difference . Towing my boat with it , it does amazing .

the diesel is such a beast completely different truck

I want to put the same set up my max tow had . 35’s slight off set wheel and 2” mopar

great looking jeep! The diesel is not "a little bit better" like people keep stating nor is it slower than the 3.6L. On the road its 300% BETTER. Does everything better than the gas engine. Plus theres room for aftermarket and my real world MPG is TEN MILES PER GALLON better.

But 3.6 owners will say were exhaggerating or we are lieing about mpg. My 3.6L never got better than 14.5 in the mountains. The diesel can get 25 on the same routes. Just ridiculous how much better it is.

I just picked up a metal cloak 3.5" going on next week. Waiting on the icon rebound pro beadlock wheels to come in and the 38's all the way!

Metal cloak has 10% off sales I was in in $1800 OTD with rocksport shocks and coil correction pads. Should be legit.

That’s awesome ! Think I’m going to go with the 2” mopar. I did notice this … when I towed my boat with the tow max (2” mopar) the jeep didn’t squat an inch . When I hooked it up to the rubicon it did squat the rear end a little bit . Another reason I’m going to lift . I thought about keeping stock wheels and tires and just lifting but I think it will look goofy
