Sorry, I've sidetracked the thread. My point was heated seats are an option, so they're already running power to the seats. No reason they can't also be cooled.

Just to clarify, most stand-alone seat heaters use heating elements which are much cheaper than a Thermo-Electric exchange. A few higher end luxury cars use TEX for heat and nearly all cooled seats use TEX which also provides the heat.

Heated & Cooled seats have been around for a long time, and they're just now getting common in cars. This article will illustrate the broad strokes of how these seats work. A more in depth explanation will be available at a later date.

Most manufacturers offer air conditioned seats in their nicer models. A few examples include:

• Ford Fusion Titanium
• Ford F-Series Lariat
• Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium
• Hyundai Sonata Limited
• Ram Laramie
• Dodge Challenger Hellcat
• Dodge Charger SXT
• Chevy Malibu Premier
• Cadillac Escalade

It's important to note that there's a very significant difference between 'ventilated seats' and 'cooled seats'. Some manufacturers have put out ventilated seats that simply blow ambient temperature air. Truly air conditioned seats have become more common recently and they do actually cool the air before blowing it as opposed to simply moving it.

To avoid using a refrigerant, the air is cooled using the peltier effect. Air is pushed by a fan to a peltier unit (also known as a Thermo-Electric Device). This unit features 2-sides. One side of the unit gets hot and one side gets cold. The hot/cold side is determined by the polarity of the charge applied. Air passes over the peltier and is split into two streams. One stream of the desired temperature air gets pushed into the seat and through some creative ductwork, while the other stream of waste air gets pushed out of the seat (typically onto the floor underneath the seat). The switch and computer dictate both the fan speed (voltage), the hot/cold layout of the peltier (polarity), and the intensity of the peltier heating/cooling effect (voltage). In addition to what's shown in the illustration below there are also numerous safety sensors measuring temperature of the system throughout, as an overheating peltier unit can fail quickly and the fix can get quite expensive.

Powered Seats / Cooling

My point was that when you price compare the Jeep, it doesn't have them and similarly priced / optioned competitors do.

The vented seats and fans for ac and drive motors for a powered seat are a unique issue if you are top off all the time.

The seats in my truck actually have ducting that draws from the recirculation system. Yes, vented seats and those with a cooling system are different. A seat setup that 'vents' would help in a Jeep for sure

Yeah I think (from back when I was a little interested in a Bronco) that the Sasquatch only beat some of the JLUR numbers because of the tires. Put 35s on the JLUR and it wins easily, so this just makes sense.

Yep I always think of the waste that is buying a jeep to put a mopar lift and 35s on it, vs the way smaller upcharge it would be from the factory

lol yes. I want 37s or so (basically whatever I can stuff a full-size spare of) but kinda want to get some use out of the factory tires first. 35s would be a welcome available option from the factory

I try really hard to forget about those. 126 horsepower I think? And the carb couldn't handle off camber trails. Just terrible. My father had a nearly mint CJ-5 and we spent more time trying to keep it running than we did four wheeling. ?

You aren't talking the 304. The 304 had the Motorcraft 2bbl that I6 Jeep people like to put on their Jeeps replacing the carter carb that keeps coming loose and had the stepper motors.
Totally different animal.
Not sure what year CJ5 you were talking but AMC didn't product the 304 until 1971, it replaced the 290.
