Will this be the first year that you cant buy a MY Jeep until that year has started? If you want a MY22, it looks like you will get it in 22 and not before.

So if I joined tread lightly in what may or June thinking the 22s would be out by now or at least be able to order one. I have my control number, but it expires like January 3rd. If I don’t have the Jeep by then which I prob won’t if production isn’t slated for 11/22 or 12/06 like some have said. Can you get a new number or possible extension of the current?

I think you automatically get two. I joined much earlier this year as well but haven't requested my first #.

How do you stuff a V8 into a Gladiator and keep it cool? I don't see it ever happening.

How do you stuff the 4xe hardware in and maintain GVWR? I don't see it happening for 2022.

Same powertrains coming for 2022, and only a couple of new colors. Maybe a new trim package with already existing content. That's it. It's really starting to look like the insiders were correct, 2023 is the mid-cycle refresh.

I’m in the same timeline. I didn’t realize the control number was going to expire that fast. But from what I recall the tread lightly membership awards 2 control numbers. So I won’t request my new number until my new build is underway… if they ever get around to building the 22s.

they stuffed a 6.4 into the wrangler and i'd imagine that it has higher cooling requirements than the 5.7. gladiator is heavier of course, but only by around 600-700 lbs.

Here's a glum thought... According to that leak from a while back that said 2021 order banks would close 4/8 (so obviously less than reliable), the initial orders acceptance (for Wrangler at least) is 10/5. The Texas Auto Show starts 9/21, and is in a state that's pretty averse to the realities of the pandemic... Unless things get REALLY bad (they are already pretty bad there, but it's not the worst state in the country yet), it'll probably go on as planned for better or worse. Mayhap they'll keep us all hanging until then... There hasn't been anything at all of note from Jeep this entire week. Maybe instead of finding an alternate venue, they just said, "fuck it" and are pretending it was never a thing to begin with. This would be even more the case in the scenario outlined above where MY22 doesn't deliver until calendar year 2022. Could get pushed back further still. The LA Auto Show isn't until November (but is much more likely to be displaced somehow).

i'm at 13.5 city driving on the 3.6, so might as well get crappy mileage from displacement instead of effort right?
Or say a little prayer for the 4xe.

I love V8s too.

But with the 4xe you get similar power to a 5.7, more torque (actually the same torque as the 392) and if you never ever plug it in and just drive it, can expect mileage in the low to mid 20s.

Right but that's the point, JL and JT have totally different usage targets. JL doesn't have to meet SAE J2807.

They didn't do the 2.0L because it couldn't meet targets. I don't see them ever doing a V8.

Well, you won’t get that torque unless you plug it in. But, Wranglers are averaging 20MPG for the 4XE without the electric. So on a gladiator and the extra weight you’re going to be 17-18? Buying that and never charging it would be foolish.

You would absolutely get the torque without plugging in.

Google hybrid regenerative braking. Every time you lift off the gas in a hybrid, you are charging the battery.

Because we can't accelerate hard on the street for long, plenty of energy from regernative braking is provided for electric assistance. Even without charging.

By the way, I agree not charging it would be foolish. What I'm trying to explain is that even if you don't want to or can't plug it in. You still get big benefits.

Though initially introduced with tiny engines and tiny vehicles, hybrids are a way for manufacturers to give us big power and still meet federally mandated fleet fuel economy standards.

People wonder why Jeep priced the 392 so high. Its ridiculous. Well, the sad reality is that if they sold a lot of them, they would be in trouble with their Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) numbers. Its a weighted average. So the more 392s they sell the more it drags down their corporate average.

By pricing it high, they make money on low volumes.
