I mean, I'd like it if the Pentastar had a little more oomph, but jamming a V8 in a Wrangler is a different concept as it has no competitor other than the vaporware that is the Ford Bronco. If you want a V8 pickup, would you spend 65-75k on a Gladiator V8 or spend a similar amount for a TRX or 50ish on a Ram Rebel?

Re: engine cooling - Just rate it less for towing. Plenty of other trucks don't match their most powerful models to their best at towing - see Ford Raptor perhaps most notably.

Re: refresh - I have no idea when a real refresh would be, but can anyone remember a recent domestic model refreshed in the third model year?! It's almost always 4th+

There's zero reason it would need to cost $75k. They can charge that if they want but reference the upspec engine costs in everything from the Ram 1500 to the Bronco and you'll see the 392 upcharge is a major aberration in the non-lux domestic space.

@sunrise089, only reason I see for a major overhaul would be the Bronco. Even then, I wouldn't be surprised if the interior stays relatively the same through this generation. They just need to update some of the tech.

So if I joined tread lightly in what may or June thinking the 22s would be out by now or at least be able to order one. I have my control number, but it expires like January 3rd. If I don’t have the Jeep by then which I prob won’t if production isn’t slated for 11/22 or 12/06 like some have said. Can you get a new number or possible extension of the current?
I’m in the same timeline. I didn’t realize the control number was going to expire that fast. But from what I recall the tread lightly membership awards 2 control numbers. So I won’t request my new number until my new build is underway… if they ever get around to building the 22s.
Hoping I'm not wrong here... Tread Lightly is a 12 month subsription. Affiliate Rewards allows 2 control numbers each calendar year. So, my July membership to TL should yield two AR control numbers in second half of 2021, and two AR control numbers in first half of 2022. Anyone have information to the contrary?

Kent
Tread lightly is a yearly membership. That means what ever month you joined you have 12 months before your membership expires. for example, if you joined in June 2021 your membership will expire June 2022. The membership for the year allows you to purchase two FCA vehicles with the two control numbers using them separately.

You will not get 2 control numbers for the last half of the calendar year and two more control numbers for the first part of the following year if you joined in June and so on. The control numbers will expire when your membership expires. You can always renew your membership and receive a new control number if you are worried your membership will expire before you take delivery.

In the automotive media today: Bronco truck dead.

Last paragraph cites anemic sales on launch. From personal experience trying to buy a truck shortly after launch, this is almost certainly all down to shitty dealers gouging and selling over MSRP. Can we PLEASE as a society move on from the dealership system... They add ZERO value, cause nothing but problems, and add considerable cost for their shittiness.

Lol at thinking the Bronco is dead and that anemic sales are the result of the market and not supply constraints.

10 years ago, Jalopnik was an amazing car site. funny, great reviews. off the wall stuff. then it was taken over by a bunch of children that seemingly didn't even like cars at all. that's the first time I've gone to jalopnik in probably a year.

He said the GLADIATOR had anemic sales at launch, which is why ford would not be releasing a bronco pickup truck, so that they don't have the same result. They think the market for a convertible pickup truck is already tapped (supposedly). Not talking about the regular bronco, but the rumored pickup truck version.

Let’s just hope Jeep has a different opinion on the potential of this market segment. It would totally suck if the reason Jeep has not announced the 2022 Gladiator yet and has been accepting 2021 orders for so long was if there wasn’t going to be a 2022 at all. ?it ain’t so.

That makes more sense. Time will tell with the sales, gladiator had its best sales before the chip issue started. It was a selective market anyways, people who comprise a truck and wrangler to get some of the benefits of both. In a perfect world I’d have a 2-door wrangler and zr2 but since I’m only one person a gladiator fits that mold well.
